If u knew how many times I told myself "this time I'm NOT buying this pokemon game, it looks horrible, it would be full of bugs, etc. etc." but then a day before release I find myself pre ordering it because the FOMO took over. So it's not "up to me", FOMO and marketing are some kind of psychological abuse that we let it in happily, it's a peer pressure we live in 24/7. So imagine that with all these variants, this need to buy and have them all, because it's either rare, or too beautiful to miss, or I don't want to be the only fan without them, or I would be a shitty fan if I won't have them all. The pressure to be the perfect fan and to have EVERYTHING the era has to offer is destructive already without all these variants. Marketing tactics are literally designed with psychology in mind to prevent the average/common person from resisting. I went on a tour yesterday which part way through went through a natural sponge shop in Symi to talk about Symi's history with sponge diving. Midway through the tour guide detailed the linked health benefits of sponges for personal hygiene and explicitly mentioned it as a potential treatment for some skin conditions. The skin conditions she mentioned just so happened to be visible on some of us within the tour group. The shop owner then announced everyone on the tour if they came back during the free time and bought anything would get 20% off and free gifts.
