When did first week sales become such a big deal? I guess it coincides with the growth of stan twitter and how it’s kinda bled into other online spaces 

For everyone but Taylor I get it bc first week numbers can help bolster their look with the label for future projects. But Taylor I think just loves it ago bc no label would threaten a project of hers for the prior one not being #1. She’s Taylor Swift Lmfao

As recently stated in a Zane Lowe interview by Halsey : “I’m not allowed to make another album right now, I’ve sold 100K copies first week and it’s not enough for my label because i’ve done 200K in the past.” The point I’m trying to make is that people shouldn’t come to the conclusion it’s all about the artist’s ego and achievements, the first week numbers can change the perception of an artist in the label’s eyes.

Honestly, I don't care how many tracks go on the ultra deluxe. But I would have liked a curated tracklist for the standard, to ve honest. It doesn't matter to me what goes on the web exclusive download. Selena did this with all the in between singles going on the Target edition of Rare. It's just for sales totals. Everyone knows.
