Halsey Not ALlowed To Make New Album By Her Label After The GreatImpersonator "Flops"

Alright, let’s discuss Halsey. She just opened up in a manner that pop stars rarely do, period, and I’m genuinely still taking it in. Halsey broke down literally in her latest Zane Lowe interview, declaring that she is unable to create another album at the moment, not that she is unwilling to attempt to do so, yet the industry is literally taking her hostage by having illogical expectations. And like. same, girl.

Her latest project, The Great Impersonator, was going to be the big follow-up to Manic, her monster period. And yes, Impersonator moved 93,000 to 100,000 units in its first week and opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. To give it some perspective, that’s insane in 2025 when nobody is purchasing music anymore. But since it didn’t meet the Manic opening of 239,000 units in week one, her label apparently deems it a failure.

“I can’t make an album right now, I’m not allowed to,” she said to Zane, tears running down her cheek. “It should be good enough that I do it once in a while. But it’s not.”

she released her last album less than a year ago.
her record label probably wants to wait to build anticipation since she relies on physical copies.
81k out of 93k first week sales were from physical copies - she had multiple variants, was dropping a new $5 digital variant every day and also had exclusive vinyl variants for shows during release week. The album dropped over 170 positions in the second week.
she's also signed to a new label, so the success of previous albums is irrelevant to them.

I loved "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power" and a casual fan of some of her other work.

But the entire Great Impersonator era was a chop. She built huge expectations with a title like that, and the weeks leading up to the release she was posting her recreations of iconic photos of musicians like Bowie, Fiona Apple, Cher, Britney, Dolly, etc .

Then you listen to the album and it has no influence from those artists and 95% of the songs sound the same? I commend her for turning her pain and experience with chronic illness into art, but this just did not land with majority of listeners and it shows.

"Lonely Is The Muse" is the best song from the album, was a single, and sounds nothing like the rest of the songs. In fact, it's vastly different.

Clearly an unpopular opinion but IICHLIWP and TGI are her best albums. I hate that it seems like she's gonna have to compromise her art for charts. This must be why they're rehashing Badlands (which I'm not mad at, love badlands too).

That blows. They're only growing as an artist and TGI was one of the most solid albums of the year.

Can't disagree enough with this tbh. Darwinism is so Bowie coded and Panic Attack is basically a Fleetwood Mac cover from a different dimension. Arsonist gives that Fiona Apple heroin chic. Hometown is very Dolly's Applejack. Idk I guess I just feel bad you don't hear what I hear lol

It was just a bad marketing move with the title and teasing iconic artists like that, compared to the actual sound of the album. Plus coming off the heels of the near-perfect IICHLIWP. Numbers don't lie, and the project clearly didn't hit with her base.

Fingers crossed for a better project/rollout next time around, because all of her albums at least have some great songs.

I liked the album. It was very experimental, and had to do with how she almost died.

I’m not a huge fan of the more commercial sound, so my two favorite albums of hers happened to be, If I can’t Have Love, I Want Power, & The Great Impersonator. I thought they both were great!!!
