RAMROD 117,043
Pete Buttigieg was former Vice President Kamala Harris' "first choice" for a running mate in her 2024 presidential bid, according to a new excerpt from her forthcoming book published in the The Atlantic. Why it matters: Harris wrote in "107 Days" that she decided a ticket of a Black woman and a gay man would be "too big of a risk." She ultimately picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) after public and private lobbying from Democrats who believed he would help court rural and midwestern voters. Driving the news: Buttigieg "would have been an ideal partner—if I were a straight white man," Harris wrote, according to the excerpt. "But we were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man," she continued. "Part of me wanted to say, Screw it, let's just do it. But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk." She added that she believed Buttigieg agreed with her assessment — "to our mutual sadness." In the book due out next week, Harris gushed over the former secretary of transportation's "rare talent of being able to frame liberal arguments in a way that makes it possible for conservatives to hear them." https://www.axios.com/2025/09/18/kamala-harris-book-buttigieg-running-mate-2024 (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵗᵒʷᵃʳᵈ ᵉⁿᵉᵐʸ (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡ 1 1
tylerjs 6,093
I know she’s right but it’s so infuriating of her to say they were “asking too much” of America. America would not given enough grace to them, that’s the truth. But to say it was asking too much to have two sane humans run for office is just a bit crazy to me. SidewalkUnicorn 276
She also would’ve had a ton of backlash from the progressive wing bc Pete is very centrist/moderate. She was kind of damned if she did damned if she didn’t, so I wish she stuck with her gut. Despite me leaning more left personally than Pete I wanted him because he’s an extremely gifted politician and an electric debater. He’s known for being willing to enter enemy territory and win votes from people who wouldn’t normally warm up to a gay candidate.
Ziggy 14,039
I’ll be so honest I need her to either step up or shut up a bit. There’s like legitimate threats happening in real time and she’s pulling the bs Hillary playbook about how none of it was her fault and if she had had her way it would have been roses. Where is the sense of leadership rn?? No one wants to hear you whine or gloat that you were right. Like ffs if you care so much about America rn where is your sense of duty given the enormous presence and platform you have even out of office? tired crap democrat response and exactly why she actually did lose. Enormously out of touch. Don’t diss your actual running mate who was the only reason you had a later surge in polls. People liked Walz more than her. Buttigieg would have been dead in the water bc he also is a master at Washington crap that most people don’t want to hear. His time at the presidency was 2020 when people didn’t know better about him but every day since he’s shown himself to be as unlikable as an itching scab bc he is a craven politician obviously only looking to get further ahead. And as a result he’s been less and less attractive a candidate. This is just such out of touch behavior when the moment is calling for so much more—not just posturing for other runs at office
Lord Mayhem 3,428
No matter WHO she picked as VP...it didnt matter. MAGA made SURE she didnt win and people didn't trust her due to her connection to Joe. Its unfortunate but I dont think there was anything she could've said, done, or promised to win...Project 2025, Trump, Elon, and MAGA were INTENT on getting control of the government and she also didnt contest his win for fear it would incite a civil war. Now we have the dictatorship we see today getting uglier and more bold by the day...dark times and Kamala was our last glimmer of hope, justice, and Amercian idealism...

Bronco 25,111
Honestly, it was reported very early into the Biden admin that her team felt deliberately shunned and isolated by team Biden - likely because team Biden had already decided to run for a 2nd term despite running on a 1 term only platform. So I'm not suprised she's bitter and essentially lashing out and trying to ensure the narrative blames Biden not her. But like, no one cares about your ego. Either fight with us or shut up. The gays know how to party 3
