Harlequin stans rise!!! That gal's coming back to reclaim her well-deserved spotlight by winning a Grammy. Does anyone know how steep the competition is for Traditional Pop Vocal Album?

We do not know yet. We’ll find out on or after October 3rd when voting begins. Here’s a likely guess:

MAYHEM - AOTY, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album (non classical)

Abracadabra - ROTY, SOTY, Pest Pop Dance Recording, Best Music Video

***Abracadabra (Gessaffelstein remix) - Best Remixed Recording

Killah - Best Pop/Duo Group Performance. Best Electronic Dance Recording

Vanish Into You - Best Pop Solo Performance

Harlequin - Best Traditional Pop Album

The nominations I personally think are on lock are: AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Best Pop Vocal Album, & Best Pop Dance Recording for Mayhem, and Best Traditional Pop Album for Harlequin.

This year Gaga will have a CRAZY Alphabet Adventage (nominees are ordered in alphabetical order based on stage name, legal name or song name, and since there are over 900 submissions on some categories, alphabet bias comes into play cause some voters don’t even bother to take a loot at the nominees at the end of the list. Yes, this happens, yes, it’s well documented that, statistically, artists who’s names start with letters like R, S, X, Y, Z, have little to no chance of being nominated simply because voters do not scroll all the way down to even see their names on the electronic ballot), so more nominations can happen.  Abracadabra (A) will most likely be the first song on the ballot for SOTY. And for ROTY and Album categories they fall under the letter L (Lady Gaga). This letter is not optimal, but since Kendrick Lamar’s legal last name is Lamar, he also falls into L, so voters who want to nominate him will have to scroll all the way down to this group to find him, and Gaga will be in the same group.

There’s rumors ballots will be randomized this year, as it was done for the Latin Grammy process. When you consider the nominations of people like Gracie Abrams, Jon Batiste, Justin Bieber, Brandi Carlisle, Doja Cat, even Beyoncé and Charli XCX (last year), it’s obvious - even if it stays alphabetically ordered - Lady Gaga has NEVER benefit from it and it’s crazy to assume she would anywhere other than “Abracadabra” in SOTY.

We’ve seen songs and albums from the above list make it that underperformed, were panned, etc. The only years Gaga overcame the disadvantage were 2008 and 2018 with “Poker Face” and “Shallow” making it in everywhere they were submitted (in addition to “Joanne (Piano)” nomination). More often, we have years like 2019 and 2024 when “ARUTW” and “DWAS” made it to SOTY, but not ROTY, and 2021 when being listed with Bennett was a huge advantage for the LFS campaign.

Actually this year might the first without alphabetical advantage. Latin Grammys have implemented a new system where ballots are randomized for each voter, and is very likely the regular Grammys will follow such formato. They can still CTRL + F to search the artist they want, but won't be inclined to check the first names that appear as in previous years.

This I believe will benefit Gaga, Kendrick, Sabrina etc and other big artists of the year since voters will just search the top names that come in their heads and not actually read the list. It kinda worked at the Latin Grammys where nominations mostly based from A-D were not dominant as before.

Oh and btw I could see Gaga submitting Perfect Celebrity to Rock categories. But considering voters have to search the artist in each field, I don't think the rock voter will be as aware of Gaga submitting there as in the pop field.

Is Harlequin in Traditional Pop Vocal? My hope is she would win both Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Harlequin and Pop Album for Mayhem. That would be an impressive accomplishment.

Yes Latin Grammys implemented this change but according to The Grammy Guru, at least the Recording Academy has yet to decide how they are going to deal with the alphabet bias. Maybe we’ll find out soon if the ballots changes or if they still did it in alphabetical order

What about Best Album cover? Any cover that might challenge Harlequin? Are they pushing HQ's cover and the story behind it or not? Does it have any chances at winning and if it does, will Gaga be credited? If I remember correctly she was part of the people who had the idea :oprah:
