Y’all doing too much. Her style is cut from the same cloth as Celine Dion and Whitney Houston where she let her powerhouse vocals shine without dancing and setpieces. Or to come up with a more modern day example, Adele sits in a chair for her performances.

I mean if her recent appearances are anything to go by, she's not even singing live lol

and she's lipsyncing for life right now <- this or heavy autotune with live vocals. So it's not like she's busy with vocals honey

It's not about the lack of dancing, she moves like she's made of stone... None of those examples are anything like how she is :laughga: even Whitney moves with more enthusiasm :green:

She is most definitely up there and has one of the biggest ranges recorded for a vocalist. She is frequently placed up there as one of the top vocalists of all time. Listen to her past performances like these:

There are recent festivals she has performed at to know it is not lip sync. Was throwing out there that unlike say Madonna or Janet, she was not routinely doing dance numbers as her style back then wasn’t about that so she doesn’t have that muscle memory. Also she is  56 years old and in a rare subset of her career that few have made it to. Not too mention 20 #1 hits, writing most of those with a vocabulary that Taylor Swift aspires to with her songwriting. No need to diss Aretha Franklin’s Fairy Godchild and Ariana’s Fairy Godmother.

waterfall of unnecessary text

Wow, such a waterfall of unnecessary text for such simple and specific comments. No one is taking away her legacy. We're describing the current reality, not what happened 30 years ago. If she can't sing her songs right now, which are admittedly very difficult because of course she was a powerhouse, she should lower her key, change her arrangements, and not try to achieve a power that no longer exists.

You misunderstood my post. I wasn't talking about her voice. I know who Mariah Carey is. I was talking about the fact the other ballad-heavy icons don't move like a Madame Tussauds figure, even when sitting

this was her two months ago during a lengthy set. There was nothing sang during the VMAs that was out of her range. There were a few backing tracks playing where she didn’t sing like Gaga does but doesn’t warrant lip sync accusations.

Doesn't sound live at all. It sounds pre-recorded or edited (either live or in post production)

I am a big-time Mariah fan and this is all lighthearted shade regarding her stiffness on stage for the past couple performances :haroon:

She's one of the all-time best musicians and it's not a legacy-threatening situation. I actually think it's cute how she gives absolutely no effort :ladyhaha:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

Ah I see. Granted how many of these ballad-heavy icons are still performing regularly with album releases? All of the ones from her era are dead, in retirement and/or suffering from severe illness.

I mean I find it amusing but some of the posts were a bit much in terms of expectations of a 56 year old woman. Not all are in as great physical condition as Janet and Madonna.

I mean I heard her live back during December for a Christmas concert and they sounded on par….
