tlittlemonster 2,086
I like Taylor but tbh this is a bit too much imo She has a big fan base but if course she will have a massive debut if each fan buys all the different versions

But good for her I guess? I'd respect her more as an artist if she actually took time between albums to put out different sounds/ "eras" that didn't last 6 months or a year tops.... Its not really an era at that point, it's just superficially approaching a sound to say "I did this!" Thats what ive been saying Most of her “eras” are not like proper eras. Besides folklore, evermore, and TTPD none of her pop albums were really very distinguishable sound wise and she just decided to add a new color to her wardrobe and call it an era. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but i just find it ironic she was the one to coin the term “eras” when they have been done much better by so many other artists 1

I mean the general consensus is that her albums stopped being distinguishable sound wise after Folklore. Evermore is just Folklore B-Sides, and then every album after Evermore is just lo-fi synth pop ala Jack Antanoff. The jump in sound between Speak Now/Red/1989/Reputation were major talking points in that first initial peak for Taylor Swift. It's the period where she had her first fully self written country album (Speak Now), started moving into the pop world (Red), fully embraced pop and dropped country (1989) and then Reputation toy with EDM pop. Teletubby 150,873
A fan speculated, "I think it's very possible that this countdown is an easter egg for cancelled! after Taylor did the easter egg of glitch with a teaser of this love tv." Another fan added, "Taylor Nation deleting their IG story and stopping the countdown is literally part of the promo, the track is called CANCELLED! after all. This rollout is unhinged, pure genius." A third wrote, "did Taylor Swift really just CANCELLED! the progress bar??? idk im just thinking…" "You b*tch!" ~ Rat Boy

I didn't find Reputation to be the dramatic pivot that a lot of other people label it as. Not saying that it’s bad in nature, but i really didn't think there was much difference besides the aesthetic and a few extra instruments added to the mix. I can only really distinguish 3 vastly different eras from her, Country era, pop era, and Jack antanoff era. Her eras pale in comparison to Chers, Madonnas, Gagas, Id even go as far to say that Katy Perrys eras have more sonic variety than hers if we were only considering the pop music. Rep is definitely not a dramatic pivot musically (stylistically it was tbf). And in all fairness, as a Cher fan, the "eras" were similar sonic changes to what Taylor went through with the switch to mainstream pop and then switching to indie music during Covid. Cher's main eras were just her following the same trends as her peers with originating in hippie rock, moving slowly into soft rock and disco before committing to soft rock and then moving into pop music with the Believe album. Cher absolutely reinvented herself, but she followed what mainstream music was doing - and was ****ing good at it. Taylor's switch ups are very very similar in that sense. As she got bigger, she pushed her way into the mainstream and then consistently followed the mainstream from that point onwards (even the Folklore/Evermore switch up reflects the growth of Lana inspired female indie music). You are right about Madonna/Gaga having way more distinguishable eras though. 1

Entertainment careers are a business after all and thats totally fair. But like, theres a certain line and threshold that once you cross just feels embarrassing and desperate 5
