As ironic as it seems, this narrative could turn against them. A general and serious conversation about gun banning for everyone (as a proper democratic country should) could be approached next, because what the actual f*. So... Let the spiral begin.

it's unconstitutional and will get blocked... but the point of this is to stir up even more fear and distrust of trans folks, so that even more americans have a target for the generalized stress/anxiety/fear they're experiencing... instead of (accurately) refocusing that frustration on the systems that oppress us despite our differences

Contrary to what some people might think, this is actually just about the most unpopular thing they could do in response to this shooting. 2A superfans are mostly apolitical libertarian types *but* HATE literally any move by the government to try encroaching on the 2A, even for a minority, because they're deeply paranoid about it setting a precedent for them. I stay firm in my belief that this administration—between this, the big beautiful bill, and the Epstein stuff—is genuinely losing its understanding of its base

Aren't they right, though? That's why I'm saying it could turn against them. I'm not even mad about it, anything that brings gun ownership to an end is a win for the USA society. Sorry. 

On a sidenote, this will heat up even more the hate toward trans people, so that's probably the under intention planned all along. These are mixed news

Their fear of the words 'gun', 'ownership' and 'ban' in the same sentence is much greater than their hatred of the word 'trans', so no, I don't think this will go anywhere.

But they'll have some sort of a conversation about it anyway, just to squeeze some more juice out of the fact that the shooter was trans.
