Blackout19 12,241
I saw many people comparing these 2 albums. Born This Way is soo much better. Don't misunderstand me, Mayhem it is great, but Born This Way is on another level. The impact of this album has been far too great. Mayhem has some good songs, but even The Born This Way Ball was Gaga's best tour. Spoiler don't come after me i am a free woman. ○●
meltedplastic 382
They're both different but similar. Different subject matter, similar sonic influences. Blah Blah... Born This Way is her magnum opus but I do like that Mayhem sounds more mature and meta, I like them both for different reasons. I don't like how a bunch of songs on BTW just sound like Madonna rip-offs, same way there's a bunch of Michael Jackson rip-offs on Mayhem. Rip that song, I guess. palma 8,158
I'm coming after you BTW is one of the best sophomore albums of 21st century... and MAYHEM is one of the best releases from a mid-career seasoned artist this century. If anything, MAYHEM is a natural evolution from BTW, and we'll appreciate it more in the future, just like BTW and, to a bit smaller extent ARTPOP, both of which aged incredibly well. Production wise MAYHEM is leagues above BTW though but it mostly has to do with the conditions in which BTW was recorded (i.e. tourbus, nother club, nother club, etc.) Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?
Controversiaga 11,622
Born this way is better, wbk Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
RudraCNG 15,220
As I said on that thread, it's not fair to compare an album that has been around for almost 15 years, with a lot of memories and moments attached with each song, with an album that came out this year. Only with time and better perspective will we be able to make a cool-headed decision to decide which one is really everyone's favorite.
princedeeblebleble 1,876
Idk.. I like the vocals and general production more on Mayhem, it's just a natural continuation and evolution that we were kind of depraved of since the end of the ARTPOP era. The only thing better from BTW is the fact that we got so many memorable tv/concert/street fashion moments that made it to the next level, that we're missing in the Mayhem era. We had some kind of visual fot almost every song, there were like 5 music videos and countless performances and essentially daily fashion shows. OMonster 14,720
BTW is Gaga's magnum opus and she claims it herself as her favourite album. Mayhem is its own thing and in its own lane I think. Both great records but BTW will be more remembered and celebrated both by the public/fans and Gaga herself. I don't think she will ever release an album as impactful and loved as that one - it would be impossible for her to because times have changed and so has culture. She could probably release an album as musically good as it and still not match its impact. All artists peak (creatively and commercially) and few really ever re-peak. subtext / fantasy
BELLYACHE 1,353
Not y’all saying Mayhem’s production is better than the other worldly production on THE Born This Way 😭😭 maybe cleaner but not even close to born this way
BloodyVelvet 656
IMO those two albums are the best out of all her discography. They’re both masterpieces but for different reasons. I don’t think we can compare them. So different yet so great. I think we will be able to have a clearer view on the impact of MAYHEM overtime. But I do think it’s already iconic. GoldenNovember 567
The question which of these two albums is superior is one I personally cannot answer. My memories around Born This Way and its songs, performances, tour (my first Gaga concert) are deeply intertwined with nostalgia. The BTW era was a time of finding myself, developing my music taste and finding beauty in activism and the fight for equality. These songs were part of me growing up, my transition from teen to adult. It was a time of conflicting, yet hopeful feelings. I just cannot separate the music from these feelings and memories. Born This Way will forever hold a special place in my heart. No album, no music could ever compete with it. Even though I actually do not listen to BTW songs as often anymore, each time I do, it feels like an instant, warm embrace. As such, Mayhem and Born This Way are being processed differently in my brain. I cannot compare them, but I can say this: If there is any music, any album in the world that can compete with my sappy, emotional love for BTW, its Mayhem. It's just THAT good. Yeah, I know, I am not the type to go deep into production quality etc. For me the world is emotion. For better or worse! It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.
