Chromatica is simple- the kind of music other popstars make but still has enough of Gaga’s touch and songwriting to make it standout.

It’s also the most cohesive but that consistency can be a double-edged sword- if someone doesn’t like this type of sound to begin with, they’re not going to like the album very much. 

You won’t find crazy Disease level production here, which some people are really into because the album was made with the intention to heal, not slay. Other Gaga albums have more “teeth”, so to speak. At the time, she wasn’t in the right headspace to make something complex. 

Rain On Me, 911 and Replay are highs. 

I personally love this sound so the album is great for me.

It could have been better if the songs we longer.. When Alice picks, it's over for example, this song has so much to say but it's not saying it.. like you can't make a song about Alice, about a journey deep down in your mind, and end the story when you fall down the rabbit's hole.

And it's like that in most of the songs.

The albums feels too commercial, it's a BloodPop album, not a Gaga album.

Replay is the best song on the album for one reason bloodpop didn't produce it, it's a craft of both Gaga and Burns, BP is still credited as a writer though but that's irrelevant to the craft, because bitch couldn't come up with the amazing sample

This I can agree on. Chromatica is a good Album, and I still listen to some of its Songs, like 911, Babylon and Fun Tonight (I always enjoy the most disliked songs ). But overall, especially compared to Mayhem and previous albums, Chromatica falls flat. To me, if an album is "nice" but has no real highlights, thats a death sentence. And I also don't mean it in a mean way. The album is still solid, but weaker than all of Gagas other records.

Yes, agree. Chromatica has a consistent and distinctive sound, very bright and (appropriately) colourful. I like all the songs but I tend to think of 'Chromatica' rather than individual songs, whereas with Mayhem I have no problem in giving each song its own identity inside my head. You've stirred something now. Chromatica will be getting a spin in the car later.

While I do agree that the production is not very interesting except for a few tracks, I think Chromatica has some of her best lyrics ever (I'm a sucker for mental health introspective songs) and I like the cohesiveness of the sound more than The Fame and ARTPOP. Considering the interludes and the world building she began to make pre-Covid, I think people would have enjoyed the sound we got way more if they were fed visually

I think the best songs are sadly very much underrated. Sine From Above is a central song for this album yet it has never been performed live, Enigma is also fantastic in my opinion both lyrically and vocally. Alice should have been the lead with a bombastic music video and Sour Candy was robbed! Replay is the only non-single song that got its flowers thanks to the tour performance.

the album definitely has some dynamic issues, where it feels plastic (no pun intended) but mayhem feels more grounded in gaga's roots, chromatica was resonant with the time, but feels disconnected from gaga's authenticity, similar to how i feel about joanne

I’m sure in 10ish years we’ll grow to appreciate Chromatica as we did with ARTPOP.

I understand how it feels like “one note” but the production is solid (albeit nothing new or revolutionary) but tracks like Replay, Alice and Babylon ooze that Gaga energy. 

I personally think it fits beautifully in her discography and shows how she’s truly is a student of music. The house music community heavily respected and supported this album. Not sure why her actual fanbase doesn’t.
