Is The Dead Dance extending/relaunching MAYHEM era, closing it, or starting a new era?

  1. 1. The Dead Dance is…

    • Extending / Relaunching the MAYHEM era. It will unlock additional MAYHEM goodies / deluxe addition / more singles or music vids to come VIY, GOE, or new tracks. The journey continues 🪞⏩

    • The MAYHEM era grand finale, last single. big visual era closer ( à la GUY film for ARTPOP, 911 for chromatica, MTN vid for Born This Way) 🎉

    • Standalone project / new mini era (within Mayhem era) 💀🕺🏻

As much as ASIB was “extending the Joanne era I guess. It just so happens that everything she’s into now is related to darker visuals and sonic landscapes I guess

If everything goes well we might have a song bigger than DWAS, Mayhem would go in history.

The main difference, ofc, being that ASIB didn’t happen *during* the Joanne era (not to mention different production team etc)

I mean, you could make the argument that, given its inclusion in CBT, that it is a part of the Chromatica era, but it’s also very clearly not part of the sonic landscape of the album and there was nothing that indicated it was intended to be on the album itself.

So why can’t dead dance be a stand alone single for Wednesday released during mayhem tour the same way hmh was a stand alone single for top gun before the chromatica ball tour

Meanwhile I understand people saying the era is still ongoing because of the tour, I have to point out that that doesn’t mean anything in 2025. Artists used to push out singles and music videos during their tours to keep the era alive. I mean it’s one of the reasons why taylor is so succesful, she used the tour to promote Ttpd. Tours for me aren’t an evidence for continuity but a promotion method to get people to recognize the targeted era.

as much as I want mayhem deluxe to happen, she’ll probably release TDD and 2 bonus tracks on streaming and finish the tour and call it off

and I’m fine with it at this point, I just enjoy the music :sue:

I actually think you’ve inverted the dynamic: it used to require constant promo + MVs to continue an era, but that’s no longer the case in 2025. The TTPD example actually illustrates that perfectly because the *tour* was basically the only promo while she only dropped one single + MV.

Ironically, Gaga’s MAYHEM actually has gotten far more traditional promo than TTPD (3 MVs, SNL perform, TUDUM performance, Howard Stern, a tour dedicated primarily to the album, Coachella, Copacabana etc).

I meant it more that it was filmed during the tour AND came out right afterwards

Not to be this person, but filming wrapped about a month before the tour and came out 8 months after the era was over lol. IMO that’s very different than TDD being both thematically and aesthetically similar as well as coming out during the tour.

In the age of streaming when you listen to the album, you’re pretty much done with it. You either like it and keep on listening to it or not. Mayhem had much more potential than just DWAS or Abra, and a typical streamer isn’t gonna continue streaming it if she doesnt follow up with a new single or a mv

But we also have to keep in my mind that eras tour started as a tour for midnights then came TTPD. So she literally didnt have to do all that. That’s why I’m saying Gaga should’ve released at least one more single and dead dance while the tour is ongoing, and use the tour as a promo, like taylor did
