The Dead Dance: Song and Video Discussion

I was expecting a spoopy catchy dance song, and I got a spoopy catchy dance song.  I like the video too ... But I think that's because my expectations were met?  I was not at all expecting another Abracadabra-caliber music video ... Because I was absolutely shook when I saw that MV for the first time and I personally think it's Gaga's best.

To my ears, this song is if Mayhem and Chromatica had a baby.  It's definitely a bop that will play well at the clubs (especially during October), but it's more inspired by 80s pop and disco instead of 90's house music.

In my personal opinion, this is probably the weakest track of the Mayhem era aside from Blade of Grass ... But if it had been on Chromatica, it would have probably be my favorite song off that album. lol.  Keep in mind that Mayhem is easily my favorite Gaga album and I'm of the mindset that there are no skippable tracks, so when I say "weakest," I don't mean that the song sucks whatsoever.

I've been humming the song to myself pretty much all day, and I'm not mad about it, which is a good.  My only real critique of it is that it DOES remind me of Chromatica in the sense that the song is very linear.  I think that a bridge would have elevated this song into something slightly more.

I like this song, and I'll be listening to it a lot during Halloween ... But we all know that the real Halloween anthem off this album is Zombieboy.

Yea same, to me it's the best and most interesting part of the song, production wise. I wish the song would have sound like that and even more spookier and dramatic as a whole.

I will start by saying I loved it - I think it is a good music video and she looked amazing. 
 

That said - I really think they dropped the ball by not having a small storyline to go with this - and I would have done it more cinematic since it IS Tim Burton. 
 

Imagine more of HIM doing a GUY type video. Small segment of Can’t Stop the High - that’s when she meets Zombieboy  and Kill for Love could have a small segment - then Zombieboy, but he leaves her, killing her - and then she comes back to live with The Dead Dance. 
 

I dunno - cute music video - I think it will be something digestible for the spooky season.

The video should have colour since the first minute,I mean we got Gaga,the dolls ,how are we supposed to see her outfits,her makeup and locations with all B&W??

I like both the song and the video, I didn't expect something similar to Abracadabra even if I hoped so but anyway I’m not disappointed.

I think it could work very well and it's in perfect Mayhem style. It's suitable for the TV series.

In this era we had a lot of promo, maybe we just needed one more single after Abracadabra but I would say we can't complain.

My reaction to this song has been so strange.

I thought it was kinda mid the first time I listened to it. The verses were amazing from the start, but the chorus was just meh. Felt derivative of other songs. 

But now I am obsessed with chorus more than the verses.

It's been trapped in my head all dang day. I can't quit it.

I felt like the colored parts of the video looked pretty good but the black and white looks so cheap. Like it needs more contrast, I think? Applause had black and white bits that didn't look cheap at all. I wish most of the video was colored and just some black and white bits and not the other way around.

The song is cute though, much better than what I expected from reading some of the reviews here.

The song and video suck ass. They have no Gaga flare whatsoever. It's honestly confusing how some of you hype up anything she releases so hard, but then I remember that's exactly what stans do. Blindly follow and support.
