Diet Pepsi is a cute song and she's trying stuff but Britney came out the gate with some of the best Max Martin has ever had to offer and nailed it. Plus, Britney's voice was very very distinctive even in the limited range the songs showed. Like her voice is iconic! I think Addison is still working on getting up to that a bit and that's great! But Britney came out the gate from the school of Mousketeers ready to take everyone on and did.
elsamars 966
Goddison released the best album of this year. Can’t wait for the deluxe. We don’t care about awards especially VMAs anyway. She’s real and she’s an artist so she’s a real artist.

Britney is one of my favs too, my point is that addison will get hate because people are making comparisons with her and the icons that came before her. If people view her as just a standalone artist, they'll realise that she's just a fun singer who makes catchy bops - not a dig or a compliment, just facts! With regard to OP, while it does seem a bit entitled to expect to get nominated, there's no denying that she has had an impact on pop culture this year, while 'ordinary' by alex warren (albeit a huge hit) is way more generic and bland than any of her output. The difference is that no one calls him inauthentic or 'wannabe' pop star even though he also used to be a tiktoker Edited Friday at 02:52 AM by Mirrion Rizzons

And she has a great discography regardless. In any case, even if you're not a fan of Addison's music, Aquamarine and Headphones On are genuinely some of the best music videos released in 2024. Great videography (Headphones On) and choreography (Aquamarine). They definitely deserved a nomination. It is the Video Music Awards, after all. Emvee 8,412
If you wanna come someone for “overhype” come for Sabrina. I truly don’t understand why she broke through so hard with the most basic ass music. Addison is not that overhyped. She clearly still has a pretty niche appeal. People are just bothered by any mention of her as if people aren’t allowed to be a fans of her cute bops. God forbid people are interested in following anyone who isn’t Taylor, Sabrina, or Chappell. The difference is that no one calls him inauthentic or 'wannabe' pop star even though he also used to be a tiktoker That’s very true and I agree. Yeah idk she made great videos this year and Britney also got plenty of fake “not an artist” accusations in her own time so it’s not new I was just about to be like now wait hahahaha i think the only problem she has atm is that she’s too tied to online culture and pr machines. Brat was kind of the last breath of that actually being a viable path imo. So strip that away, she’s an artist with a strong debut who really just needs to keep doing her thing and trying less to appeal to a demo that, frankly, is mostly fickle and not a great base of support for long term success. Great springboard, and I get she’s going for “the cool one” accepted by “cool” places but that currency is just kinda fake without some groundwork existing first. Like Britney is now cool to these same places after building a catalog and reputation that kinda was outside them and they came around to her later.

The lyrics, melodies, and vocals are so weak on most of the album. Writing your own music doesnt make you an artist, everyone can write, it doesnt make us artists. Obviously this is my personal subjective opinion of her It feels… reductive.

People do believe in what shes offering us regardless of how some try to discredit her as an artist. She doesnt have to write her own songs and have a good voice to be considered an artist. We turned into Madonna fans real quick, didn’t we? I mean, I'm not salty towards her. She just isn't my personal vibe. But lets be honest with ourselves when pointing to her Top 5 score. She shifted 48,500 units and physical sales of 23,000. Those aren't big numbers. Its lead single Diet Pepsi peaked at 54. The follow up didnt crack the Billboard 100, it hit #10 on bubbling under. The third single didnt even crack the bubbling under. The fourth peaked at #87 on the BB100. The fifth peaked at #73. Its very fair to point out that the hype is not equating to success outside of a small but clearly dedicated audience. There's nothing wrong with having a small dedicated audience, but lets not be salty when people point out that the noise ain't matching the results.

She has a vast variety of influences, she writes her own songs, she is behind the concepts of her music videos + her whole visual aesthetic. She can dance, she experimented in different arrangements for her songs. What else does she have to do in order to be a real artist? I can only speak for myself, but I think the fact that she went from being a cute normie girl doing tiktok dances to this alt pop artsy persona paints her image in an inauthentic light, regardless of how much of it she's actually responsible for Obviously that doesn't mean you're not allowed to grow and expand your tastes as you get older (and start meeting LGBT people ), but to go from where she was then to "omg yes I've always loved Bjork" feels fake af lol I think if she keeps it up and lives in her new image then it'll feel more real, but I don't blame people for feeling like this is just a trendy rebrand to try and give her a second chance at a singing career aimed at The Gays this time

Yet another counterexample citing an artist I don’t like 😅 Disagree on Selena’s discography and don’t really think she deserves even a fraction of the career she has. Addison Rae is perfectly fine (better than Gomez), but I just don’t really see what the hype is about.
