If you wanna come someone for “overhype” come for Sabrina. I truly don’t understand why she broke through so hard with the most basic ass music.

Addison is not that overhyped. She clearly still has a pretty niche appeal. People are just bothered by any mention of her as if people aren’t allowed to be a fans of her cute bops. God forbid people are interested in following anyone who isn’t Taylor, Sabrina, or Chappell.

Ngl, again, at least Sabrina can sing. People can like whatever they want, but you can’t be mad when other people don’t fw it lol

I just re-watched the High Fashion mv and now I'm positively pissed she didn't get any nomination.

Aquarmarine and headphones on I could begrudgingly overlook BUT High Fashion is a masterpiece in visual work, absolute criminal behavior the vma's aren't recognizing this girl.:oohrightthereyeah:

Addison Rae

her videography deserved at least one nom…like every single video she’s released is a 10. but hey, she’s performed at the grammys museum, opened for lana’s stadium tour, is co-signed by and collaborates with the best alt pop artists in music right now & has sold out her debut tour. i think she’ll be fine without the vmas :sue:

People saying Addison isn't a real artist or that she's just fueled by Twitter hype as if she wasn't just invited by the Recording Academy to join them and is now currently campaigning for a Grammy is the real funny thing here. Addison brought something fairly unique to pop music this past year, visually and sonically. And it is something worth taking her more seriously over, whether you like her or not. She obviously has a vision, which is ultimately what makes or breaks an artist. For someone just starting out, she's been doing a great job.

I mean, I'm not salty towards her. She just isn't my personal vibe.

But lets be honest with ourselves when pointing to her Top 5 score. She shifted 48,500 units and physical sales of 23,000.

Those aren't big numbers.

Its lead single Diet Pepsi peaked at 54. The follow up didnt crack the Billboard 100, it hit #10 on bubbling under.

The third single didnt even crack the bubbling under.

The fourth peaked at #87 on the BB100. The fifth peaked at #73.

Its very fair to point out that the hype is not equating to success outside of a small but clearly dedicated audience. There's nothing wrong with having a small dedicated audience, but lets not be salty when people point out that the noise ain't matching the results.

What you’re describing is still more respectable than just « Twitter » vibes, and I believe many artists would love to draw those numbers with a first album in this economy. She also had to switch to bigger venues for her upcoming tour because of high demand - in my book, it’s a pretty positive sign when people are willing to pay a ticket to see you.

I mean I read the twitter vibes comment as a reference to the way gay folks pick these pop girls who have niche but loyal audiences (like Allie X/Carly Rae Jepsen etc) and doing the whole "you are sleeping on x" etc.

And like...that's basically what Addison Rae has. A small but loyal audience who turn out hard for her. Its not a bad thing at all, but we shouldn't be acting shocked when mainstream award shows ignore them. Because they aren't mainstream, they aren't big enough to be valuable to award shows trying desperately to survive irrelevancy.

As for her upcoming tour - in the UK her dates are all at middle capacity venues. Like they are for every indie sized pop act.
Like I think you're letting your own perceptions of what is respectable cloud your judgement when people say she just has twitter vibes. Because she absolutely does just rely on the small dedicated fanbases typified by "twitter vibes" (like Marina/Rina Sawayama/Carly Rae Jepsen/Allie X etc).

She have a lot more chance in the future. She is still young and her professional career just started.

I do agree with all this and low-key thought « Twitter vibes » was more derogatory than what you explained.

I mean, I'm not the OP so I may be being too generous for what they were going for lol

But for real, I feel bad that she worked so hard on this album and she had no standouts

will never understand the hype about her, and I'm being generous with saying hype since it's mostly twitter vibes

Shes more into aesthetic and vibes than merit. The lyrics, melodies, and vocals are so weak on most of the album. Writing your own music doesnt make you an artist, everyone can write, it doesnt make us artists.

Obviously this is my personal subjective opinion of her

The music is good, but as others have said, I don't think she's much of an artist in the conventional sense. The reaction to her album was very much "oh, this is really good" and not "oh my god, she's the next pop superstar".

I have to agree. I’ve tried to get into her but I just can’t seem to. However when I put it on in the background it does give good vibes, so I like for that. But I don’t get into each of the songs themselves like I do when I’m really into something it’s more of a soothing background.

I agree with a lot of what was said here but for me, she's style over substance. It really feels like she's cosplaying as a popstar, just like she cosplayed as a dancer on TikTok.

I listened to her album and yes, there's fun pop songs. But something about it I wasn't able to connect to it. Just feels very manufactured. Very well manufactured, but manufactured nonetheless.
