LunaUniverse 3,875
I just wish she finds a role that takes her out of her comfort zone to learn and grow as an actress, like someone said in here a “normal” role would do her good to build her experience. Of course the final script isn’t an actor’s fault, but I think she gets very particular about choosing roles that so far have end up being decent to just lukewarm. Ariana got nominated for an Oscar and although she isn’t taking Oscar bait roles, she’s still building her experience with roles to experiment as an actor, and I wish Gaga did that as well I’d place her role in AHS first in ranking, ASIB second, HOG third, and Joker fourth in place in terms of favorites, I wouldn’t say she should give up acting entirely, she should maybe shift her focus on what she should aim for post Joker, but that’s just my little opinion 1# Samoyed Stan
Celloo Deng 55,074
I think she’s great, her acting is really entertaining to watch and she steals the show in her scenes. She shined especially in HOG. Sadly she was less memorable in Joker but still did good. she/her 👹🖤 | Vanish Into You 🎶 HMHAS 🎶
princessofmonaco 100
Here's my perspective as an actor / director. What people don't seem to understand is that a performance is shaped by the direction. Yes, Gaga brings a lot of her own ideas to the table but her role is to be a blank canvas. The reason she might seem «forced» probably has to do with the fact the she was not directed well. AHS was a camp show with a terrible script, and it's probably made very fast with lots of last minute changes, she did her best with it and delivered a strong memorable character. Gucci was also camp but it's very clear that Scott had no idea what partition he wanted every one to be on. Every actor was acting in a different movie, and that does not happen because they are bad at their jobs, it happens because the direction was rushed. That brings me to ASIB, which to me is by far her best work. It's very clear here that she felt comfortable and supported with Bradley. It was her first movie gig and Bradley's first time directing so of course it's not perfect, but to me she is brilliant and fully commited. Her eyes portrait a lot of emotion and she does not overdo it (ex: the scene where she visits Jackson in Rehab). The «cringe» you feel might be because the direction was not super clear therefore it feels uncomfortable, but at all times Gaga and Bradley were together, fully commited and free. I think Gaga shows tremendous potential as an actress. You can tell she gets it. She feels it in her bones and that's not something you can fake. Now, what I want to see from her is a female directed movie by an established director like Jane Campion. She has everything it takes to be mindblowing, I just think she need to choose her next projects carefuly. Ladle Ghoulash 25,020
Y’all are talking about her like she’s Gal Gadot, be serious lmao. I see the critiques about it being too muggy/hamfisted/theatrical/stilted and while I don’t entirely disagree, we can’t be acting like she has no skill, presence, nuance etc. If anything, I think she’s maybe just one or two degrees off from feeling completely settled in some of the roles which is what separates a very good actress from a great actress. IMO, feels like y’all are kind of crucifying her for not being the world’s greatest actress when, in the grand scheme of things, she is actually very good. With all due respect, your definition for maturity, for being an adult, could be widened. It's perfectly possible to try to see the good in someone's artistry and 'be an adult' (in your words). Leave it there though, please LG I don't think her acting in the movies is dissimilar, though. She's consistently been praised for her acting in every project. She got Oscar-nominated for ASIB, and although HoG and Joker 2 were bad films, she was the standout in almost every review about those movies. Her acting isn't bad like y'all make it out to be, and it's baffling that y'all think she's some D-level actress. MOT 3,080
A lot of people on here struggling with the concept of 6 or 7 out of 10. I think she has shown flashes of excellence. I haven't seens AHS but of the movies .... I really enjoyed the first half of ASIB, I thought she had great chemistry with Bradley and she convinced me as 'ordinary girl' (without being absolutely flawless). HOG was not a good movie, mainly English-speaking American actors pretending to be Italian people speaking English - that was a recipe for clunkiness and it delivered plenty of it. Gaga contributed some of the clunkiness but overall I thought she was the best thing in the movie, and I thought she was terrific in the scene where the lawyer tells her that hubby wants a divorce. As for JFAD, I liked her in the scenes she was in, but I retain a suspicion that her role may have been reduced because her work wasn't good enough in some scenes. So a mixed bag but the potential is there to improve, and she has the work ethic to make the improvement. If she ever finds herself in the right place at the right time in terms of role/movie/director I think she could knock one out of the park. Does need to improve though I think.

Awards are politics, imo If she wasn’t “Lady Gaga,” not only would she not have earned praise for those performances, she wouldn’t have gotten them in the first place based on fair auditions. She may have the acting bug, but not the chops. I disliked her acting style long before Joker, for what it’s worth. That movie had nothing to do with it for me 🤷🏽♂️ I had to watch AHS, ASIB, HOG like this 🫣 & can’t revisit them But again, I think she would do well on Broadway 🎭 Ignore me though, idk d!ck about sh!t.. I’m about to walk into Freakier Friday & it will probably make me cry lmao 🍿
djBuffoon 12,123
1. A Star is Born - absolutely stellar. It helps that Bradley is the most actor-focused director she’s worked with so far. It’s no wonder this performance was able to silence haters and garner industry respect. The performance feels authentic, lived-in, and never once do I feel that she is anticipating what’s coming next (which is where my newer actors run into trouble). 2. Joker FAD - she manages to fill such an ancillary role with humanity. No easy feat. 3. House of Gucci - flashes of brilliance but, as we saw with the other performers, Ridley was not interested in reigning anyone in or helping them drop their bad, “actorly” habits. As a result, her performance is campy but overly fussy and stagey. 4. American Horror Story - as with HoG, there are moments when she is excellent, especially as more about the Countess is learned. But while Gaga‘s emotional choices tend to be very right, her line readings need help. She tends to emphasize strange words within the sentence, which can make the work seem amateurish. Still, it was a bold move to make her the lead of a television season, and it pays off more often than not.
lastpopicon 30,300
She's held to a impossible standard by many people, just because her name is gaga, same happens with her music career, I guess it isn't surprising it also extends to her acting career. But overlooking the impossible standards (that liddos and ogh's set for her) she's better than most female A listers on Hollywood and I'll die on this hill. BrandyFinest 35
DamnI love all three of her film performances I do not think she ever does too much in any of her roles. She was amazing in ASIB, especially considering that Bradley was new to directing. I also loved HOG but a little less. IDK how many fellow cinephiles are here, but late style Ridley Scott is something that you just have to get, and thankfully I really got HOG but unlike ASIB, Gaga was not as much as an anchor in the film. ( Tangent, but I am asking this as both a fan of Gaga and Ridley Scott, can the studio PLEASE release the extended cut of HOG please please) Her performance in Joker was her weakest I think but that is only because so much of her was cut. I do agree with some here that she should take on more normal roles, I think HOG was a step in that direction. Looking to other musicians turned actors, A$AP rocky was just in a Spike Lee film and later this year he will be in a comedy drama film by A24( If I Had Legs I'd Kick You) Tyler the Creator is gonna co star in a film with Timothée Chalamet later this year (Marty Supreme). All this to say that these are the type of roles I would be taking if I were Gaga. But I am confident she will choose the best roles in the future. Your post just proves my point that liddos set impossible standards for her, I can concede that other A listers have similar/better roles but gaga track record is nothing to scuff at, especially for starting so late.
