RAMROD 117,010
Australia will recognise a Palestinian state at next month's United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday, a move that adds to international pressure on Israel after similar announcements from France, Britain and Canada. "Australia will recognise the State of Palestine at the 80th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in September, to contribute to international momentum towards a two-state solution, a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages," Albanese said in a statement. Albanese made the announcement after a cabinet meeting, and told reporters in Canberra that recognition would be predicated on commitments Australia received from the Palestinian Authority, including that Islamist militant group Hamas would have no involvement in any future state. "A two-state solution is humanity's best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and to bring an end to the conflict, suffering and starvation in Gaza," Albanese said at a news conference. Albanese said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday and told him a political solution was needed and not a military one. Australia last week criticised Israel's plan to take military control of Gaza, and Albanese said the decision to recognise a Palestinian state was "further compelled" by Netanyahu's disregard of the international community's calls and failure to comply with legal and ethical obligations in Gaza. New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Monday that New Zealand would "carefully weigh up its position over the next month on recognition of a state of Palestine". https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/australia-recognise-palestinian-state-united-nations-september-2025-08-11/ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵗᵒʷᵃʳᵈ ᵉⁿᵉᵐʸ (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡ 2

BUT they will only say yes if Palestine leaders promise to do important things such as making sure there are fair elections, won't let bad groups like hamas lead, and will keep the peace and not use weapons (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵗᵒʷᵃʳᵈ ᵉⁿᵉᵐʸ (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
Lucas 31,100
Great but it doesn't change anything... Israel clearly won't give up on taking control of Gaza/Palestine. Didn't Netanyahu announced a few days ago that they'll take control of Gaza no matter what? 4
River 127,344
It looks like all the western countries are trying to play both sides, they do these PR stunts just to shut up all the pro Palestanian protests in their countries but at the same time they don't really make any move to stop Israel, even all these "weapon embargo" that we hear about are just smokescreen. Israel still a little baby sister of the west, I can't believe that Netanyahu has THAT much of influence on the western leaders, so everything is clearly their choice to defend Israel no matter what and to give some breadcrumbs to Palestine just to make themselves look better. Honestly, western nations have been coopted since the Truman administration into satellite states of the US. Even if they wished to truly diverge, they rely entirely on American support for their defense. So even if they truly cared about Palestine, and I don't think any do, they're completely incapable of taking any meaningful stance. Even France are only being so vocal as they see it as a chance to assert dominance in Europe post-Brexit and in response to German decline. Hell, even the other middle eastern nations that are western allies lack the military capabilities or the political impetus to make a strong stance. And I strongly suspect the likes of Saudi, Qatar etc don't actually care about Palestine as it has no value to them and their oil industries. I find it funny that France is still trying to be a thing lol Qatar has been paying both Netanyahu (and his team) and Hamas, to Hamas and Netanyahu before 7 October and to Netanyahu's team post-7 October. they are playing and orchestrating this whole situation and now Trump is in their hands as well. There are enough evidences that Netanyahu's family got money from Qatar and they have some shell companies in Panama under their son's alias name and his wife has been staying in Qatar-owned hotels and more and more dirt. Oh Qatar are absolutely war profiteering. Arguably its in their interests (much like Natanyahu's) for the conflict to never end. Qatar's only interested because they want international allies to rely on when their oil reserves run dry and the entire reason for their existence and security guarantees run out.
