But I won't deny it has a lot of birthday inspirations to the point of borderline theft. The mentions of cake and putting a candle on top is obviously drawn from Birthday Cake by Rihanna and seems to be an amalgamation of all those other songs with "birthday" in the title. I can hear more than a bit of It's My Birthday by will.i.am in there and also some of Birthday Song by 2 Chainz. Maybe this was her intention but it's weird how it has very obvious inspirations from other songs with the same themes, a bold choice in the era of copyright lawsuits. But considering how I hate most songs with "birthday" in the title (it's a weird curse in my opinion), for me to like this is some feat. But my God, she wants to be Beyonce so bad. The style of music, her voice, her way of dancing, the whole thing is her attempt to be Beyonce. She doesn't have the self-awareness to know we see it as cringe.
