So, you're flame-baiting?

Saying Nicki is worse but liking her more than SZA is not the flex you think it is either. I can't believe we're trying to defend Nicki Minaj because SZA made a comment almost half her life ago in 2011. But if we wanna talk about something more recent, let's talk about Nicki rapping " they switchin’ like sissies now" on "Majesty". Sissies is a derogatory term for the femininity exuded by gay men.  And funnily enough, she used the similar line "they switch like f@ggots" on "Dead Wrong" a decade before that. So it doesn't seem coincidental.

If that isn't recent enough for you, she was on IG Live last year with her husband when he just casually used the term "f@ggots". To which she had absolutely nothing to say or correct.

Both are bad but SZA’s comment is extremely hateful and is literally targeting a specific double marginalized group lmao.

The internet cancels people for things they did a long time ago anyways, so i feel like the “it was 10 years ago” argument doesn't really hold up. This tweet is circulating around twitter and SZA is doing nothing to react to the fact that she said that, and obviously doesn’t care enough to apologize for saying that, so i mean, thats also kind of bad. They should both be held accountable lmao.

also (edit) im just trying to say, if i were SZA i would be doing everything i could rn to make it known where i stand on LGBT matter especially black LGBT in general. The fact that she is saying nothing about it at allll, tells me its not important to her. She doesn't care to be looked at as homophobic bc its not a big deal or a deal breaker for her.

I don't think it says anything about SZA's character at all. And I say that as somebody who actively dislikes her music, so it's not that I'm trying to defend someone I Stan. It was 14 years ago. There were more recent things I regret saying. There were things at that age I regret saying. 2011's internet was different. And I'm not saying that to completely excuse her behavior, but I understand we are all human. Nicki doesn't care and has no filter, and that's why I'm not really defending her. You hear from Doechii there are issues with TDE and how they manage their artists, with TDE also being SZA'S label. And you would hear about TDE being very controlling of SZA's career as well. It would not surprise me at all if they're stopping her from making a statement about it. And it's possible they know how many eyes are on that tweet, and that addressing it would only attract more eyes. Therefore attracting even more negative attention.

This is it. I've literally only seen that SZA tweet referenced on here.

No where else ive seen talk about this beef has mentioned it.

Why would you write a PR statement to draw attention to it? Its like the number 1 rule of celebrity PR, don't say **** unless there's literally no other way out.

I'm not defending Nicki either. Both of them should publicly apologize and neither have. We have straight male artists that have made public apologies for those same statements. And i am saying this as someone who does like a lot of SZA music.

And if this is the case, we should have this same attitude for anyone and everyone who has said things in the past and actually come forth to apologize later.

And why are we digging into hypotheticals to give her an excuse for not apologizing?  if she had simply said a slur or something, that's no big deal to me but the statement she made, in my opinion, is actually disgusting and purposely harmful. and she openly posted that for the world to see, not out of context. not to mention it may have been a long time ago, but she was a fully gown adult at the time, it's not like she was a child and said that to be funny. I'm not saying she can't or hasn't changed, but i still kind of find it weird that she feels no need to apologize. same with Nicki.

But she was a child. No, she wasn't under 18 she was 21. But our brains still develop until the age of 25. I have probably lived 3-4 lives in the time between turning 21 and turning 25. And I would wanna be shown some grace. So that's what I am doing for her. I think we can all agree that the internet has changed a lot since 2011. We weren't sitting there creating an editorial for others to see, and for us to pass ourselves off as perfect. Even at the time, I don't think anyone thought social media would play the role it does now. It was just for random thoughts. So how do we know SZA even meant anything inherently homophobic?

My mom didn't want me to be gay. It had nothing to do with disliking gay men, and everything to do with her worries for my future and the discrimination the community faces. She still loved me, but she begged me to go into the closet again when I went to college because she wanted  to ensure I wasn't hate crimed. And that quite possibly could be the same view SZA had.

We're talking about "no hypotheticals" but jumping to conclusions on the meaning behind her tweet IS a hypothetical, and I feel like that road goes both ways. She didn't say "I hate f@gs" or anything straight up homophobic, she said she wouldn't want a gay son. And like, would we actually want any of this for our own kids?

You have some valid points in ur first two paragraphs, and you had me until the last one. But jumping to conclusions to a very obviously ignorant comment? Idk. If she didn't mean it in a bad way she definitely could have elaborated on the topic. I can’t emphasize with people who are saying harmful things. I can accept that some time has passed and she might think differently now but i still think it would be better if she apologized.

I get that PR and stuff can be involved and maybe im biased but i have a big issue with people saying homophobic things and not apologizing bc homophobia is downplayed in the media so much. Thats also one of the things about nicki that just hasnt sat right with me. How are you gonna be an artist with such a vast gay fanbase and completely ignore the fact that you said those things? Even if she didnt mean them it still allows it to be normalized. A lot of these artists do not care for the LGBT community like they lead you to believe.

There are plenty of people who was been “cancelled” over saying far less hateful things.

And who says I'm trying to "flex" to any of you? :laughga:. I dislike a certain celebrity (SZA) moreso than some of you do, if some people in here get heated up about it, that's not my problem :ladyhaha:

This reasoning of "X celebrity is worse, so it is wrong to dislike Y" is demented, I'm sorry :air:. I do not share a hivemind with you guys, and I couldn't care less if you believe that, because Nicki Minaj is a bad person, it is illegal to dislike SZA, like, how on earth does that make any sense? :icant:

I dislike SZA, you guys are gonna just have to coexist with that reality. If you have no issues with her... cool? IDK, I don't care :laughga: .

I mean at the end of the day these are all opinions. I'm glad you were open to mine and were able to agree openly on some things. I can understand where you're coming from on your stance and I can agree that even hinting at homophobic views is detrimental to the LGBT community. I'm glad there are people like you that wanna hold people accountable for their actions. And I think you're approaching it with an open mind. But like I said before, this is all hypothetical to me because I am not SZA or anyone that knows her. So the best I can do is be open minded about her intentions.

Why even come on here if you're not actually going to engage in actual conversation? If you don't care what people have to say, and you don't want to rebuttal opinions. And you come on here all "hehe haha I'm not like y'all and I'm getting a rise out of y'all" and you post all these emojis in your response like a catty child. Why not just write your opinions in your notes app? And I don't want you to feel unwelcome or make someone feel unwanted in this community. But like what even is the point for real? You're probably the closest I've gotten to ignoring anyone on this site. Which I'm sure gets a "I don't care", but I'm sure if I never ignored anyone I'm not the only one thinking about it. So at some point you're just going to post your opinions into the void. Idk, just something to think about.

Just about zero opinion on the actual substance of the beef since it’s made up in Nicki’s head bc she’s a narcissist. Ma’am just be happy you have a trending song again and have fun. You have a husband (👀), son, and big house. Stop picking dumb fights bc you’re bored and paranoid after making it big.
