Yes, because it didn't fit the story.

Neither does Vanish Into You, Just Dance, Shallow, and half the set list :laughga:. It was moved to the last cause it became more popular, and that's it, not because it's not "gothic enough", hardly any song on the set list fits the theme or the tone :ladyhaha:.

Mr Oak

I think Vanish fits bc the Mistress ultimately vanishes into Gaga and they become one being (which they already were in a way). Shallow does fit now with the new storyline, the boat a la Phantom of the Opera etc.

Shallow and VIY absolutely fit the story wdym lmao. And she also moved HBDUWM to the end to make it a meta commentary on her relationship to her fans

Fully agree, it really condenses the entire show's concept into one final moment.

Of the songs that are very obviously about her struggle with fame, I like to think HBDUWM represents that healing moment on the Chromatica Ball tour where she realised she can still do it and that the fans are still there for her not that very specific period of her

See, you get it, sister.

That user said HBDUWM does not fit the OPERA THEME, not the story itself narratively. Visually, musically and tonally, Vanish Into You is neither gothic, nor dark, nor elegant, nor opera related in any capacity :laughga:

Most songs on the set list do not match the visuals at all, Killah sticks out like a sore thumb in contrast to the imagery of the show. I responded to that user's insistence that HBDUWM was ill fitting for the theme, which I agree with, but half the set-list doesn't either :ladyhaha:. So logically that wasn't the reason why she moved it to the encore.

Narrative-wise any song can fit if you stretch it enough, it's not a real theatre play, she's forcing together a number of songs that don't necessarily match, and were not written to go together, by tying it all up through the visuals. In that context, anything can fit, specially with the themes of duality, and one persona being naive and the other being cynical.

She could literally put Plastic Doll on the blonde segment, and it would fit, if she arranges the visuals for it to do so. None of these songs were written to tell a shared story about duality, she makes it work by emphasizing individual lines, words, and through staging, acting and costuming. That's the genius of the show :partysick:

So the idea of "HBDUWM not fitting" is true about ~most~ of the setlist. I would say only the first act is completely musically and visually cohesive, with notably darker songs like Judas, Abracadabra, Scheiße, Bloody Mary, etc. After that, she resorts to visuals to make it work, because Poker Face is already a huge musical departure from that initial tone.

I agree with that user's feeling, I just disagree that it's something exclusive to HBDUWM, half the songs don't fit the theme, her making them work through visual storytelling is what makes this her best show to date. But yeah, I don't see any gothic opera in Vanish Into You, that's a funky sob-ballad, it fits the show because she's making it work, not because it naturally fits the opera theme :icant:

Yeah.

I don't see any other path.

Think about it.

HBDUWM as encore.

Taylor's comeback is mounting.

I gather we're getting a video soon with both of them.

Feels like the easiest way for them both to knock it out of the park and cross-market.

But I have been wrong.

Still here for a GOE video.

And I hope a song from Mayhem gets single treatment with Beyonce.

Especially since they are both touring right now.
