zevthepaparazzo 588
just went through that BI: “This years biggest hits sound stale” thread and ive never felt so heard. after 2024 died it seems that the beautiful musical chaos of the year died as well. i listen to the radio a lot (my alarm clock plays it every morning, i listen on the bus and i put it on when i sleep) and apart from some 80s–00s throwbacks and the occasional abracadabra its ALL this stale bland country pop, either that or 143 for some unknown reason. I think i've found the cause of it: we don't have a certain flavour of popstar; the flavour being the weird one who does weird contraversial, like what madonna and gaga were. chappell almost got to that level but i feel like we need a dash of a different flavour; that flavour being a person so repulsive to the mainstream, that the mainstream turns into her, like what charli did to brat or what we thought mayhem would be but also, doesn't it feel like todays charts are missing a bit of gothicness? a little sprinkle of esotericism? something with symbolism that would make fans scrawl down interpretations of lyrics like a mix between gnarly by katseye and the band ghost's entire discography? DOWN WITH COWORKER MUSIC. LG7-ANTICIPATION-ESQUE MUSICIANS RISE. tl;dr: i need a new aggressive gothic pop diva to burst into action this year or a certain person whose name starts with r will get his tires slashed DON'T... Bronco 10,810
Honestly the issue now is that labels won't invest in new blood unless they are an instant smash global hit on the first single. And the opportunities to come up through the ranks are growing smaller every year as nightlife spaces close due to spiralling cost pressures. 6

It's so weird to me that all these clubs are closing despite their finally being an increase in demand for nightlife after almost a decade of it declining. It's the cost. Overheads have shot up massively, new construction and gentrification is making it harder to function as well and then even when people are going out they're spending less because of cost of living pressures. And then landlords are deliberately raising rents to push bars etc out because it's better value for them to covert into luxury accomodation
elijahfan 26,032
I also think that the world is such a chaotic mess right now that people want to consume the least challenging entertainment possible.

I like gothic but I doubt it would sell beyond a niche audience. However you don't have to sell to the gp to be successful. Alice Cooper is one of many examples. I live outside the space time continuum.
RAMROD 109,253
Well, tiktok and social media with their influencers culture as a whole done ruining art in traditional form and way. So all these same flavour just inescapable. Labels just won't stop signing new faces that only have one viral hit. They rarely invest on new artists for the long run anymore. It's easier for them to sign someone who already got internet popularity and helped them maintain said popularity for them. Most especially target market for these young artists are really into that as well, and mostly not watching entertainment in traditional way anymore. I read an article some time ago that even A-List actors now need to make instagram etc accounts because audition is not enough now apparently, studios won't just hiring them regardless they are Oscars winners, if they don't have large social media following. That's fxcked up. Edited July 10 by RAMROD
