Trump to impose 50% tariff on Brazil over Bolsonaro prosecution

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Wednesday that his country will respond with reciprocity to U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly announced 50% tariff rate on his country’s exports, citing a recently adopted Brazilian law that authorizes the government to take proportional countermeasures.

Trump said Wednesday the U.S. will impose the tariff on imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1, partly in retaliation for the ongoing prosecution of the country’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro.

Trump said in a letter that the new tariff — a massive jump from the 10% rate the U.S. imposed on imports from Brazil in early April — is also a response to the “very unfair trade relationship” between the two countries.

Because Bolsonaro is a fascist just like him and the "Trump" of Brazil. Once he lost his election he was aware of an assassination attempt of the current president. 

This lets you know what Trump dreams of doing to this political opponents in the US.

What a sick way to meddle in another country’s internal affairs, this is literally what we criticize countries like Russia for doing. Absolutely disgusting. I know it’s going to hurt the Brazilian economy but I hope they don’t cave to Trump’s vile demands and find new trading partners.

Thats the thing. Yes the US is still very powerful and leaders with an ego like Trump may get a kick out of flexing their muscles to bully others into doing what they want and dictate

 

But longer term the policies Trump is inacting will only isolate the US and diminish its global influence especially in economics and markets

 

The US will always be a major power due to its sheer size but rather than a global super power it will likely transition more towards just a regional power. Rather than dominating Globally they will dominate this side of the Globe (Americas) while China & India will dominate Asia and from a military standpoint Russia as well.

 

Even in Europe as the US shuts itself out, its influence relative to Germany, UK and France will deminish both economically and militarily
