Gagauzia leader faces 9 years in jail for accepting illegal funds

Moldovan prosecutors are seeking a 9-year prison sentence for the Governor of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, for allegedly accepting illegal funding on behalf of the now-banned pro-Russian Șor Party. Prosecutors state that between 2019 and 2022, these funds (about 42 million Moldovan lei) were channeled via covert travel and other methods to support the party’s campaign and anti-government protests.

Prosecutors want Guțul sentenced to 9 years in a semi-open prison regime. They also seek a 5-year ban from political party membership and want her confiscated funds to be retained by the state.

Russian interference in Gagauzia, an autonomous region in southern Moldova with a majority ethnic Gagauz (Turkic-speaking) population, poses a serious threat to Moldova’s sovereignty and democratic stability. Moscow has long leveraged Gagauzia’s pro-Russian sentiment to undermine Chișinău’s pro-European trajectory, supporting political actors and movements that favor closer ties with the Kremlin.

The recent criminal case against Evghenia Guțul, the region’s governor and an ally of the banned pro-Russian Șor Party, highlights how Russia has allegedly funneled illegal funds into Moldovan politics to destabilize the central government and sow division.

Are we surprised though? Russia has put its nose everywhere, I simply can't believe that everything happening in the world so suddenly is just a pure coincidence.

Yes, it's all Russia's fault, sure. Between them, the US and Russia have at least 142 military bases abroad. At least 128 of those are American.

It's nuts to believe that "Russia has put its nose everywhere" and to blame them for the state of the world when the US has in fact been behind countless coups, regime changes, misinformation campaigns and other similar actions in both developing and developed countries.

On top of that, blaming Russia is exactly what the US wants, and it's very rich for Americans (the so-called free thinkers of the world) to sometimes (very mildly) question their authorities on everything except when it comes to the enemies they're told to hate.

Does any of that mean that Russia isn't putting its nose everywhere? You can google any country/continent + "elections russian interference" and some high autorities from the country/continent will say that they have proofs of russian interference, propaganda, hacking, and use of spies in latest elections: USA, Canada, UE/Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Australia...

I mean, there was even a russian spy in Buckingham Palace for 27 ****ing years
