Congress passes Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill

My understanding is that the medicaid cuts won't happen till 2027. Does anyone know is the same true for snap ?

If the Dems were to flip both houses in 2026 (BIG if), would it be possible for them to reverse this bill, or could Trump just veto that ?

The ICE funding is what scares me the most. ICE is pretty much Trump's personal gestapo. Right now, they're starting with immigrants. Then it's going to be non-white people. Then it's going to be LGBTQ+ people. Then it's going to be non-MAGAs. Then it's going to be anyone who pisses off Trump at any given moment.

He wants a dictatorship, and he has installed loyalists who are determined to see it through.

So depends which type of veto got used (which would depend on when the bill is passed as well). 

For a standard veto the Democrats would need a 2/3rds majority in the House - which would be 290 yes votes. It would require a miracle in the current US political map for the Democrats to get 290 House seats so they'd need to rely on some how getting a sizeable minority of Republicans to back them. So I don't think they could prevent a standard veto. 

The other veto is the pocket veto. So the rule goes is that if a bill reaches the president's desk they get 10 days (excluding sundays) to return it with objections (the standard veto), if it isn't returned or signed within 10 days it becomes law. However, if the bill reaches the president's desk and isn't signed or returned AND congress adjourns within the 10 days - the bill fails to become law which is a pocket veto. There are ways around this but its complicated and with SCOTUS stacked against the Dems they'd be at risk. 

So realistically. Yes, Trump could just veto any reversal.

I'm sorry but like... the response to someone creating Nazi Germany 2.0 is not to try and vote against them. 

I know that's easy to say as someone who isn't in the US, but for Dems to throw their hands up and go 'ah well, we tried, sowwy ' is not good enough. I don't understand why anyone is still playing the rules when they do not matter whatsoever. It's infuriating

We’re thinking of selling most of our stuff and just taking the important things (like our pets, sentimental items, cash, etc.) with us and just leaving the rest behind.
