Morphine Prince 109,695 Posted July 4, 2025 Share Posted July 4, 2025 WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans muscled President Donald Trump’s tax and spending cut bill through the House on Thursday, the final step necessary to get the bill to his desk by the GOP’s self-imposed deadline of July 4th. At nearly 900 pages, the legislation is a sprawling collection of tax breaks, spending cuts and other Republican priorities, including new money for national defense and deportations. Democrats united against the legislation, but were powerless to stop it as long as Republicans stayed united. The Senate passed the bill, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tiebreaking vote. The House passed an earlier iteration of the bill in May with just one vote to spare. It passed the final version 218-214. It reduces non-military government spending while adding stricter eligibility requirements for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), resulting in an overall reduction in the amount spent on said programs. Additionally, it allocates $150 billion for defense spending; scales back many of the Inflation Reduction Act's clean-energy tax credits; extends the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, which also expires in 2025; and increases the SALT deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000. The bill increases the funding for ICE from $10 billion to more than $100 billion by 2029, making it the single most heavily funded law enforcement agency in the federal government. I can't say that I don't wish what's about to happen to people in this country because I can't wait to see how it will affect everyone who voted for it. They deserve every single bad thing that's coming for them. They knew it, we told them, so there's no excuses. Can I vanish into a cheeseburger pizza?
