Has everybody just agreed that the term “mixtape” is used for an album they make quickly?  I mean it’s still album. Is it just the term used to lower expectations. Like when people say “buzz single”?

Unless they have a prior agreement with their label, it usually means that a mixtape will not count toward their album requirement in the contract. It can also mean they made it on their own time and money and the label doesn’t think it’s album worthy when it comes to full scale promotion.
