4th Time Around

This seems like a fair score. It's an excellent album but doesn't reach the level of her pre Solar Power work.

The opinions of critics are just as valid as anyone else and I like reading insightful reviews but like @monstertorontosaid, they tend to be a hivemind and follow loud voices. I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about a bad review. If I enjoyed the music, why should I care about some critic validating what I think.

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

How do I know that it's a matter of taste and an impossibility to give a grading based on intricacies that go beyond what's possible with a 1-10 grading done by someone who is a human with likes and dislikes that go beyond objectivity?

Because I live on earth.

Well that’s why they also write an entire article about it. To go beyond a number which like you said isn’t totally sufficient. But my actual point was you are making SO many assumptions in the previous post and generalizations based on…vibes? So also an opinion? A critical opinion? Reviews are meant to give people an idea of an album and create cultural discourse. If you don’t like what someone says, say your piece too. That’s beautiful thing about public discourse. Acting like criticality outright is useless is so smooth brained, though, and why half the stuff that we get these days is just slop crap. There’s no level of standard bc of the persistent undercutting of any kind of cultural rigor. Publish opinions. Disagree with them. Contribute. A less vibrant arts scene that’s less talked about is a poorer one.

My point is that their point of view is no more important than anyone else's. You know this, let's not be obtuse.
