Morphine Prince 109,683
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Maryland parents who have religious objections can pull their children from public school lessons using LGBTQ storybooks. The justices reversed lower-court rulings in favor of the Montgomery County school system in suburban Washington. The high court ruled that the schools likely could not require elementary school children to sit through lessons involving the books if parents expressed religious objections to the material. The decision was not a final ruling in the case, but the justices strongly suggested that the parents will win in the end. The court ruled that policies like the one at issue in the case are subjected to the strictest level of review, nearly always dooming them. The school district introduced the storybooks, including “Prince & Knight” and “Uncle Bobby’s Wedding,” in 2022 as part of an effort to better reflect the district’s diversity. In “Uncle Bobby’s Wedding,” a niece worries that her uncle won’t have as much time for her after he gets married to another man. Bonkers 30,860
When people tell me they agree with stuff like this, I think I have a good response: When children find out about the existence of gay people, their minds don't fill up with images of gay sex. That's a "you" problem". You're either gay or a pervert. I'm not joking. It's not like SCOTUS has a history of getting things right. The gays know how to party

I can’t imagine this even being a topic of discussion when I was in school in the 90’s. Maybe resistance to a quickly changing society perhaps? If anything, more people than ever support the LGBTQ community and equal rights. No, what we're seeing is, imo, a pushback by the powerful. And it's not even a direct attack. It's just a distraction. Lawmakers and the people that bought them are trying to start/continue a culture war among the rest of us so we're so busy fighting for our lives and rights or fighting each other that we don't see things like Republicans slashing entitlement and welfare programs and funneling all the "money saved" up to the richest people alive or the executive branch abusing power that it doesn't have. Can't talk about welfare when you're worried about being abducted by ICE 'cause your skin is brown or you're worried you'll be branded a pedophile for being noticably gay in the vicinity of a child. We're scapegoats. The victims of a sociopathic distraction campaign. It'd be different if they hated us, we'd have a clear fight to fight. But they simply don't care about us. MACATL 2,128
Definitely a lot truth in that for sure. But there is cultural pushback at the micro level as well from the religious right. Yes - support for equal rights is better now than ever before, BUT now steps are being taken to put it in schools for children - that’s a whole issue, and brand new.
