Hormonal birth control doesn't necessarily wreck your body. It has therapeutic uses aside from contraception –– helping with cramps, regulating one's cycle, preventing ovulation pain, preventing the thickening of the uterine lining (and therefore preventing uterine cancer), preventing uterine and cervical polyps, helping regulate hormones through menopause.....That said, it does have side effects. I'm on it for medical reasons, and the good outweighs the risk in my case. 

Just to be clear, hormone replacement therapy, used both for people going through menopause/post-menopause and also people transitioning genders, also has side effects. 

And yes, the birth control pill is progress because some people in heterosexual relationships eventually want to have children, but they want to be in control of when it happens –– as such, permanent surgical solutions won't work, so it comes down to hormonal birth control, IUDs (which may or may not be hormonal), condoms, or abstinence. And not everyone who's in a monogamous relationship wants to use condoms (usually, it's the man who doesn't want to). The pill and other non-permanent forms of birth control give cisgender women reproductive freedom.  Are they perfect? No. But you know what really can wreck your body? Pregnancy and childbirth.

That is great that people who need hormone therapy can use it as medicine, and I'm glad you have something that helps you. I've just had multiple female friends who've had issues with BC and it was hard to watch. One particularly (on it from ages 12-21) destroyed her body. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, I wish it would stop being pushed on these young women and hopefully it doesn't start happening with young men too
