Alligator Alcatraz. Florida Building Detention Camp Center In Everglades

Florida has begun building a detention centre - dubbed the 'Alligator Alcatraz' - to temporarily hold migrants on an air strip in the Everglades. 

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the facility would be funded "in large part" by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's shelter and services programme, which was previously used to provide accommodation and other aid for undocumented migrants.

The plan has been criticised by several lawmakers, including the mayor of Miami-Dade County, who argued it could be environmentally "devastating". 

The proposal comes as Trump tries to deliver on a campaign pledge to ramp up deportations of illegal migrants.

"Under President Trump's leadership, we are working at turbo speed on cost-effective and innovative ways to deliver on the American people's mandate for mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens," Noem said in a statement.

"We will expand facilities and bed space in just days, thanks to our partnership with Florida."

The facility is to be built on the site of the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, a public airport around 58km (36 miles) from Miami. It will cost about $450m (£332m) a year to run.

In a video posted on X, Florida's Attorney General James Uthmeier called the airport a "virtually abandoned facility". 

He said the detention centre could be built in 30 to 60 days and hold an estimated 1,000 people. 

He argued the location acted as a natural deterrent for escapees. 

Uthmeier said in the video: "[If] people, get out, there's not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons. Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide."

It will never cease to amaze me how humans come up with new ways to showcase just how cruel they can be towards other human beings. Not only is this entirely unnecessary and just plain evil, this will be absolutely horrible to the already in-decline everglades as if the recent droughts haven't done enough damage.

Just a thought, but it's almost funny how there's a pattern with horrible things having "cool" imagery or names when you think about it. Almost like its how they draw people in or why so many unsavory people think those things are so great.

It's unfortunately just the state of the times we live in. Everyone is h*rny for a cool tagline or aesthetic. Our entire culture has become bite-sized, and a lot of people look for shock, glam, and momentary excitement, rather than seeing the bigger picture for what it is.

So they'll take a human who is an important part of the community into custody... and then pay $450,000/year just to imprison one person. Imagine if that money was infused into the communities and support for the communities of undocumented citizens. 

$450million per year... on 1,000 prisoners. I mean that amount of money could benefit a huge number of people.

This is actually a huge part of authoritarianism. Give everything a huge grand aesthetic with cool names to look attractive, and also like nothing is wrong. This is why H!tler constantly did huge speeches with so many n@zi flags in grand halls. It was to make everything look perfect and epic.
