Yes I saw the correct number a few hours ago. 9.7M is still on the lower side as a general rule, but he’s also a very new artist with no hit this time… but his first album did a little over 20M so…I still think it’s a weak ass debut, even if we take into account the apk removal.

his last album received over 9M from his viral song and had 5 more tracks.
there is a really small percentage of artists who are able to get +1M per song on release day so him doing 400-500k per track with new album is ok.

I mean I think we have disagreed before but  I’m sure we align sometimes too. But I def think the rampant opinion that  “any straight guy trying to look hot” is automatically “queer baiting” must be stopped.

I don’t know if id consider it queerbaiting necessarily but i think straight men (or men refusing to identify their sexuality) performing for the gay male gaze can be kind of harmful in nature for several reasons. And it feels cheap in a way. 

I feel like it kinda uses queerness as a tool for clout while he keeps himself at a heteronormative distance. Not to mention straight/cis gendered men are the 1# problem starters and aggressors with gay men. 

while he might not be directly portraying himself as gay, the imagery, specifically the way he is carrying himself in this specific scene could very easily be misinterpreted as poking fun at or making a mockery of gay men 

but i will also play devils advocate and say that gay men are the ones giving him the stage to do this on, so. There is that too.

Idk I just don’t think it’s that deep. To me, it feels similar to how Sabrina Carpenter performs sexuality: it’s lightly subversive and it’s intended as a wink-wink nudge-nudge in an almost cartoonish way. I also think projecting the entire baggage of the relationship between cis straight men and queer people onto one guy for cheekily leaning into gay guys thinking he’s hot feels needlessly loaded and I’d say it’s no cheaper than anyone performing intentionally commercial sexuality.

He's not necessarily doing anything wrong on a personal level but the fact that society is generally ok with this (bc basically none of his hate has anything to do with his flamboyancy) is questionable bc if an openly gay pop star this early in his career were to release the exact same visuals there would be an uproar over it and a campaign against him immediately.
