Teletubby 147,191
As part of their sustainability mission, Coldplay are re-releasing all of their albums as clear 140g EcoRecords made from recycled plastic bottles. The records are produced using injection-moulding technology, which reduces carbon emissions during manufacture by 85% compared with traditional vinyl production. EcoRecords are manufactured using 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a lightweight and durable material that is easily recyclable and helps to reduce shipping emissions and end-of-life environmental impact. Each 140g injection-moulded LP is made from, on average, nine recycled PET plastic bottles. These bottles are recovered from consumers as part of a process known as post-consumer recycling (PCR), where they are cleaned, processed into small pellets and then molded into new items. While EcoRecords can be made using either virgin PET or recycled PET (rPET), Coldplay have chosen to use only rPET for all their EcoRecord products. It follows the successful launch of the band’s 10th studio set, Moon Music, last year, the world's first album released as a 140g EcoRecord rPET LP. benKo 3,359
I think they somehow missed the "reduce" part in "reduce, reuse, recycle" On the other hand, if that plastic ends up on a shelf and not a landfill (for now) it's not that bad after all...

My point is that they're selling those as something to help the environment but the shipping itself will probably harm the environment a lot in itself. To me this whole thing hurts the environment more than it helps it idk

princedeeblebleble 1,433
Would it not be more eco friendly to not re release 20 year old albums 😅 unless they add some new content to each album.

eifulien 2,954
Tbh, at least they have been consistent with this. Ellie Goulding has also released her albums in eco-friendly packaging for the past 7 years. The argument against physical copies doesn't make sense, cause there's still demand for them. What I find annoying is when artists do it once just for the aesthetics and then for the next album it's like the planet healed itself. Example: Lorde, for Solar Polar she put redeemable codes in the "CD" box instead of a disc and had written that long essay about how important it was that we take care of the planet. Come the new album and... Crickets. CD, stored ina jewel case, it just exposes them as hypocritical. I'm glad Gaga has always released her CDs in a jewel case, it's the best package for a CD.

If they really cared about the environment, they wouldn't have released 8 vinyl and 6 cd variants of their last album and then announced the tour and made their fans believe that by buying their physical copies they would have priority for tickets. their vinyl are still unsold in stores so why to press more?
