Shakira says lives “in constant fear” as an immigrant in the United States.

The comments came in a new interview the Colombian-born pop star gave to BBC News this week. Reflecting on her own journey to the United States, she said she arrived “like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future.”
When asked by the BBC how it feels to be an immigrant in the United States today, she replied, “It means living in constant fear, and it’s painful to see.”
Continuing, she called on immigrants to stand together in the face of adversity. “Now, more than ever, we have to remain united,” she said. “Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.”

Dumb.  Dumb dumb dumb.

She has a point.  It’s scary times in our country.  As a gay man everyday I feel I have to pull back and be less and less of myself.  I feel like I can’t live out loud like I use too.  I work with the public too in a very conservative wealthy suburb.  It feels backwards.

And what's happening on America right now is honestly scary and I already gave my thoughts on that in other threads but if you can't find humor on stuff like this they already won.

I wanted to say something simmilar. Her experience as an immigrant is not gonna be the same as a typical immigrant.

Im sure theres still some disconfort in some situations. But constant fear? Sounds dramatic to gather sympathy. Maybe shes confusing her fear of Government over tax issues over deportation

Also if she was mistakenly deported that would really be something. Means a number of ppl would be living under a serious rock to not know who she is :air:

She's fishing for empathy. They'll seize her money before deporting her. Poor thing !

Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

The headline feels a bit dishonest. This is from the actual interview with BBC:

"I was only 19 when I moved to the US, like many other Colombian immigrants who come to this country looking for a better future," she says.

How does it feel, I ask, to be an immigrant in the US today?

"It means living in constant fear," she says. "And it's painful to see.

"Now, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane."

She’s clearly just talking about immigrants in general and how they feel right now
