I would love a solo song of hers to have these milestones, but I feel like we're super blessed that she has not just one but TWO huge duets that people love. DWAS and Shallow are both iconic at this point 

And I fully believe Gaga's a key ingredient of their success

I wasn't even thinking about this being a record, so this is immense and the first time this record has been broken in, what, 4 years? Incredible. I always thought Levitating was overrated (for what it's worth, I find DWAS overrated too but still prefer it more), so I'm glad it no longer holds that record. I always like to see acts with longevity break records, it makes it so much more meaningful as opposed to someone who only had a handful of hits and their record-holding one was all about good timing.

Bradley is the one who starts singing in Shallow and Gaga doesn't begin singing until over a minute in. Yet we'd never say it's Bradley's song or Gaga doesn't sing enough to qualify a feature. Duets should be as close to 50/50 as possible to differentiate between a duet and a feature but they're not usually completely equal. I'd say DWAS is about 48% Gaga's voice, we underestimate how much she sings in unison with Bruno. The C2C and L4S albums are equal parts Gaga and Tony yet all the videos and audios for it were on Gaga's channel. Also, Britney, Rihanna and anyone who's ever been considered manufactured have had numerous hits with songs they played no part in writing. Bang Bang has 3 artists on it yet it's just considered Jessie J's song officially and even though Nicki played a part in the writing, she's never claimed it as hers. A song that you merely featured on will count as your #1 if it goes to the top (I don't count it, but the industry does). Some EDM tracks don't even credit the vocalist. A song is defined by how the artists and labels choose and we just have to accept that.

And it was a great move. It being a stand-alone single would be such a waste, people tend to remember songs more when they're attached to an album. Bruno got the live version on his channel as it was played at his show, so they've shared it well.

They only say "with" if it's a full-on duet as opposed to a feature. They also sometimes write "&" if it's a feature and sometimes, as in the case of DWAS, a simple comma between their names (Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars - DWAS"). If it's a feature, it will always say "feat." so far as I'm aware.

Good that you mentioned this. We dont talk enough of how the music video really did wonders with this song...i can even say that it contributed to the great success of DWAS. Gaga and her team for sure put in majority of the work for the fashion, colors, the branding basically of the song. Visuals!! And Bruno trusts her and her team on that. It's not just a timeless masterpiece of a song... it's an iconic music video! Also the single cover photo (Abra im still waiting!!!).

I've decided to step in and clear this whole thing up (but please note that I won't be providing evidence for anything I say because I haven't got any).

First of all, DWAS is a very good song, but the reason it's such a huge hit is because a) it's a duet and b) the video. It wouldn't be anywhere near the same hit as a solo for either of them.

The threshold for crossing over from feature to lead artist is 40%. ROM is 62/38 so Ari is a (strong) feature. DWAS is 56.4/43,6, so Gaga is a (junior-ish) lead.

DWAS was written 85% by Bruno and 15% by Gaga.

There are only seven people on the planet who don't like the song and they all have accounts on ggd.
