If Gaga did this yall would eat it up.

She already did it a decade ago with the "Do What U Want" music video. It was seen as distasteful back then, and the video got scrapped, so you're only partially right :laughga:

But the theme of the video was submission and the objectification of one's self. A much more elaborate concept than Sabrina's to be fair :icant: but still a similar approach in terms of imagery.

I do agree that Sabrina should not be censored over this of course. She should be free to express herself in the way she choses to. If somebody doesn't like it, they can just not consume her work :iamfair:

She just revealed her Rolling Stones cover. She’s a very pretty woman but damn that playboy-esque photo comes at a very delicate time lol

lmaooo how is this shocking for people, hypersexual imagery has been extremely common in pop music for so long now.

From a recent interview

"It's always so funny to me when people complain," she says. "They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it. It's in my show. There's so many more moments than the 'Juno' positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can't control that. If you come to the show, you'll [also] hear the ballads, you'll hear the more introspective numbers. I find irony and humor in all of that, because it seems to be a recurring theme. I'm not upset about it, other than I feel mad pressure to be funny sometimes."

This is an important topic for Carpenter, and we discuss it again on the phone a few weeks later. "I don't want to be pessimistic, but I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now."

I tell Carpenter that the conversation is fitting, considering that down on Cornelia Street, fans are posing outside of Swift's former home and taking photos. "That's what I'm saying," she says. "We're in such a weird time where you would think it's girl power, and women supporting women, but in reality, the second you see a picture of someone wearing a dress on a carpet, you have to say everything mean about it in the first 30 seconds that you see it."

The thing is, Madonna's cover doesn't have any type of act that could be seen as violence. Sabrina's cover does. You guys saying "oh he's barely grabbing her hair", are you guys blind?

I don't care if you like it or not, I don't have an opinion Sabrina's cover. Art is subjective, so if someone that has experienced something that looks exactly like the cover, they'll link their experience to what they are seeing (Ex: the first tweet in the OP). I think that the cover represents she likes to be treated inferior when she's having s*x (it's a pretty common thing to like feeling like that when doing it).

Violence is a stretch IMO bestie, she's not conveying any emotional distress on the cover, she actually looks "happy" for a lack of a better word.

Will people understand her image wrongly? Probably. Be she still has to right do it IMO.

I don’t think the hypersexuality is surprising. A ton of pop stars have done it for decades.

It’s specifically the imagine of her in all fours and her hair in a man’s hands that I’ve seen people take issue with. It conjures up pretty bad images for people and I kinda agree at first glance it doesnt give empowerment but subjugation. And I think if this had been someone like Katy then everyone would have condemned it instead of talking about how people are too sensitive.

However the Rolling Stone shoot is gorgeous and I have no issue with her image as a whole.

Its appears quite degrading to women.

My initial reaction was to see this as mild suggestion compared to artists like Madonna, but after giving it more thought, I definitely wouldn't want a female relative or loved one treated this way.

Does this showcase a major difference between 3rd wave feminism and where we are now as what many modern women generally lament as the male gaze?

If it turns out Sabrina had full control of this decision of this imagery and promotion, where is the line between female sexual expression and her feeling she has to do this because society and/or the entertainment industry objectifies her for controversy and making sales?

Woman here. I view this as a subversive critique of the way some men degrade women. I don't view it as her intentionally sexualizing or degrading herself.

That's just my take. I have no idea what her actual intention was, but I don't get the fuss at all.

She's literally playing the submissive dumb blond image enjoying being used as a toy by an alpha man, at his knees and grabbed by her hair. With zero sense of privacy. I get why some people feel triggered by this, especially in our times.

Do I feel offended ? no. She does what the **** she wants. People are oversensitive about anything nowadays. Do I find the cover ugly ? Yes :ohwell:

she also announced it after Harvey's retrial results, I don't know if it was intentional, but if it does, that's very spot on on the critique. because people are talking about the cover and barely about the retrial, and once again pointing the fingers to the woman and how she likes to express her consented sexuality.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Really, truly, do not understand why this is such a fuss for everyone on X.

It’s clearly satire. It’s clearly tongue in cheek. ‘Man’s Best Friend’ is a phrase almost every person who speaks the English language has some idea of. If anything the reaction is precisely the joke. Whoosh.

Case closed. Enjoy the music.

It feels like its intended for the male gaze. Although that has been kinda her own shtick anyway.

It doesn’t come across as a sexually liberated woman, but rather like a Terry Richardson lite.

It's hilarious to me that if Charli had done this as a cover, everyone would be embracing it with "YASSS Kween slay!" (Or maybe not idk)

Also, the comments here show me majority have not watched a single MV of Sabrina's beyond "Espresso" (if that). Literally her WHOLE brand is camp.

The "Taste" music video is essentially her and Jenna Ortega killing each other in all these very violent and gory ways.

In "Please Please Please" she's with her BF as he continually commits crimes and she's there to see him get arrested over and over again while innocently singing her song.

Even as early as "Espresso" she's objectifying men and using them to paint her nails, hold a surfboard while she dances on top, etc.

But God forbid she get on all fours and have her hair pulled :icant:

She's very much in control of her visuals and media, let her explore.

Madonna has literally released multiple music videos depicting bdsm scenarios and other kink based scenarios and a coffee table art book of soft core erotica including bdsm scenarios.

Yeah Sabrina is barely doing anything.
