Production is quite nice and sounds good, title track is fun, overall a very Marina kinda album.. could have been released in 2015 as well tho, which isn't a bad thing, just that there's not much to differentiate it. Songs so far have been kind of cringey to me coming from an artist capable of FROOT and existentially impactful songs (End of the Earth, Savages, Immortal, ADIAML, etc.). If this was something playful or parodic like Electra Heart, I could get onboard, but it seems like the songs are being taken seriously? I also say this as a Love + Fear stan (which is the album that often gets trashed). With L+F, she brought her beautiful lyrics with pop tracks. (FROOT Is my #1, to be sure). Tired of fanbases basically saying you have to like everything an artist does. Still a huge Marina fan and will stay that way - can also dislike some work. L+F and ADIAML were album I liked, but had some skips for me. POP has basically no skips for me but there are 3 songs I haven't fully gotten into because they're tagged so bad but from what I could hear on them I don't think they'll be skips. The album has a playful Marina vibe I haven't felt from her in a while. It keeps momentum where I feel ADIAML lost it halfway through. Haven't read too much into the lyrics yet but nothing horrendous has stood out. You can tell she had fun making this. Don't need the obligatory ballad though. I love everything she's given us with this album so far! Although butterfly was a bit of a letdown ngl. Looking forward to hearing the full thing!
