Tbh I really had to bring myself to do so, because when I saw the album art a few days ago, I was so turned off by how extremely generic and boring it looked that I immediately lost all interest. People were shï**ïng on BTW's album cover and font back then, but THIS?? That blue font and floral pattern alone is one of the most ugly things I've seen on an album cover in quite a while, WOW! And I really don't hate on the artist here, I don't know anything about this girl and she, unlike the design of her album cover, is very pretty - and talented, I'm sure! But after listening to the whole thing, I am sooo regretting that I didn't spend the time listening to literally anything else. Or nothing, like listening to the birds outside would have moved me so much more! Again, I don't hate this girl, and I am honestly happy for everybody who enjoys this record! I'm also happy for her, I wish her all the success in the world! (Just please, world, don't let this become the defining sound of 2025. lol) But that so many Gaga fans absolutely LOVE this record baffles me because to me, her voice, delivery and the overall production just feels so bland and unremarkable! It was extremely boring, like the opposite that most Gaga songs would make me feel. AGAIN, different strokes for different folks! If you love it, that's great! But I was genuinely surprised by how generic this album felt to me. Somebody here wrote 90s-inspired...? I guess I was expecting way too much. I'm from Europe, and the 90s here were something else entirely. lol Ngl, some Techno inspired beats and Eurodance extravaganza would have been awesome! What greeted me instead though was some Sabrina Carpenter-level of extremely safe, overly polished and radio friendly H&M-music - YES, that's exactly it! I just remembered that somebody else here used this term to describe the record, and they were SO right!! So, today I found out that Addison (Rae?) is not for me! Wishing her all the best, still. And yoü, dearest reader! It’s more 90s trip hop ish but I’d add the caveat that it is inspired by Madonna’s take on trip hop on Ray of light so it’s a little removed of the genre roots specifically. Definitely not going to be the vibe of a Gaga song by any means since trip hop is so much dreamier than Gaga goes with all her power

Definitely not going to be the vibe of a Gaga song by any means since trip hop is so much dreamier than Gaga goes with all her power Thank you for taking the time to explain! There are trip hop-influenced records that I absolutely LOVE! Like everything Lana pre-Chemtrails is giving me life, and there are so many songs of hers that I'd say have a strong trip hop influence - Summer Bummer, Freak, a lot of BTD... But something's missing for me in Addison, Idk. Each song seems "floaty" and almost too perfect / polished - production wise, but it's also her voice for me. I know nothing about music theory, but Lana for example has so much range, if that's the right word. It all comes together organically and works, whether it's really deep or really high. And the lyrics are like poetry, with imagery that can be really dark and unhinged at times, whereas Addison's tracks in comparison all feel kinda... samey? But still, it's nice to see so many are enjoying this record. For me, I have to agree with another user who said it made them appreciate Marina's new album more. lol I love that, because I feel exactly the same about it. So I guess that's a win, in a way! EDIT: Oh, you also specified MADONNA’s take on trip hop! My bad, sorry. I don't know anything about that. But if it's similar to this album, I'm probably not a fan. Haha Edited Saturday at 05:38 AM by howsAnnie
angelduuh 438
It's really a good album. Reminds me a lot of 2000's Britney. For me is the best pop release of this year after Mayhem. In The Rain is such a bop
ode 1,528
Better than Mayhem, sorry babes. Album of the Summer. (Now, someone go and make a FKA Twigs—Madonna—Addison mashup — I'm thinking Girl Feels Good + Candy Perfume Girl + Times Like These.) 1

Haha Oh I totally see where you’d think it’s samey. I agree on that! When I said similar to Madonna’s I meant more in the synthesis of pop and electronic but since Addison is inspired by *that then it leans even more pop rather than trip hop despite what stans will tell you lol DEF give Ray of light a shot. It’s Madonna’s best album and also explores a lot of 90s techno sounds my biggest note with addison’s album was I felt like I heard the whole thing but by the end still never felt like I’d quite heard *her* bc like you said it’s almost too perfect especially in the vocal processing. Some will like it others won’t! It’s not atrocious but I do think it’s an approach that’s semi particular. HIM820 1,797
I like her and this has legitimately good songs, but her fans are constantly setting her up to get made fun of online. Comparing her to other artists that are on their 3rd or 4th albums, calling them flops and yet her numbers don’t compare at all. Her vocals are incredibly thin too, which is fine for pop and the style she’s going for. I just find it very interesting how she had no major live performances of the singles pre album release. That’s counterproductive for getting new fans and trying to sell more- unless her team was shielding her from criticism? Idk seems very strange. 4
monstertoronto 9,660
For me, I think Addison is going to fall into that category of singers like Lana, where so many people love her, and I like the idea of her and want to like her, but I just cant get there. I tried listening to the album last night and was not feeling it but I’ll try again.

Her live vocals were going semi viral with everyone saying she can’t sing. (if you click on the sound there’s tons more)

lastpopicon 27,810 Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM I'm obsessed with Aquamarine, Times Like These, Fame is Gun, High Fashion, Diet Pepsi and Headphones On. The thing about Addison for me, I buy the act she selling, exquisite visuals, hypnotizing choreo's and she oozes confidence, plus, the album is really damn good IMO, very coherent, she has an unique song and her lyrics while simplistic are very colorful and fun. People will use Addison's TikTok past and many failed ventures to put her down but for me personally that makes her even more interesting, she was always a hustler and she never gave up even when everybody clowned on her for trying. At the start of Gaga's career many people also tried to undermine her, and we also know that Gaga was a hustler before making it big (yes joe money helped but we all know she worked HARD), now I'm not saying that Addison is on the same level of talent of gaga, just drawing a cute parallel. Then you hear what she has to say on Fame is a Gun and i have no choice but to Stan. The melody that you choose can rescue you 1
