Well… if there’s a year for her to receive a long overdue award then yeah, this has to be the one, which is clearly her year.

Thing is, I’d love to see her at the ceremony, even though VMA is not a big deal for years now but still it’d be another iconic delivery performance for sure.

I mean if I were the VMA’s and was hell bent on giving the Vanguard award, then I’d be absolutely jumping through hoops to get Gaga to accept. Hence, I would be either booking that pre-recorded performance and/or trying to change the award show date to one she can attend.
 

This is clearly Gaga’s year + she’s been long overdue for the Vanguard award + DWAS/Disease and most of all, Abra are three great additions to her videography. Abra is a front runner for VOTY imo. It will look suspicious if Gaga is snubbed entirely, so this is a rumor I’m willing to bet it’s at least true on some capacity. The only thing I don’t like is for her to lose most of her categories and only get 1 due to her not attending. They should just pre-record the acceptance speech. In my mind these should be her wins:

Televised:

- Video of The Year (acceptance live from MSG)

- Artist of The Year (acceptance live from MSG)

-Best Collaboration (Pre-recorded or have Bruno accept)

Technical Awards:

- Best Choreography (have Paris accept the award)

Best Collaboration isn’t as big so It can have a pre-recorded cute acceptance speech. Then if her performance for the Video Vanguard award is indeed pre-recorded, then she could just film an acceptance speech that plays right after.

There were rumors of that too on twitter. In my head canon the VMAs announce a date change and right after in that same post they announce Gaga as the Vanguard Recipient. That way from a PR pov they can “justify” the change.
