Thursday night’s Shakira concert at Fenway Park in Boston have been abruptly canceled.

Live Nation released the following statement: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th respectively at Fenway Park have been canceled. Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

According to WCVB Boston , the stage collapsed and both Shakira's concert tonight and Jason Aldean's performance tomorrow had to be canceled for safety reasons.

This is scary to think about but thankfully they inspect all of this and caught the issues.

Unrelated but the Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has multiple safety features. The ride has multiple cables, has safety brakes in case those cables fail, has shock absorbers at the bottom. Plus, if in the extremely unlikely event that all of those fail, the build up of compressed air would slow down the car. Plus daily, weekly, and yearly maintenance and inspections. I appreciate people doing their jobs and companies not skimping on safety.

also to add, all non knock off ride/rollercoaster manufacturers also have multiple fail safes

workers are okay? This already happened with the stage in Colombia, isn’t it? The tour might be more complex than what it seems :laughga:

Wow, that’s so funny. I literally had an appointment today at Fenway and as I was walking I noticed that the vendors had all Shakira merch like set up. I was like oh wow like Shakira is in Boston. Then when my appointment is over that I’m walking back towards the train station. The vendors have like completely started to take down the Shakira merch, now it all makes sense. I saw some fans all dressed up I feel bad they missed the show.

She has cancelled a lot of dates, it's kinda embarrassing. She needs a better team.

This also happened in Chile if I'm not mistaken. A lot of her cancellations have been a logistics issue.

Tbh with there being zero turn around between her show and a different performer's the next night - I don't even think this is her crew's fault.

Seems more plausible that the stage skeleton itself was set up by the venue and then the various performers would just be building their set onto it

She's really unlucky.

But her tour is still a massive success, she's selling out stadiums all over the word.

2 botched dates because of stage issues don't really mean much, especially when we don't really know who is at fault.

it's 4th show canceled due to stage issues, she had to cancel show in Colombia and 2 shows in Chile due to stage collapse.
she also had to cancel Dominican Republic show after her stage was damaged in Chile.
