Trump threatens Apple with 25% tariff

Assuming we still have elections, these tariffs are gone in January 2027. Congress is flipped and ends Trump’s the bogus state of emergency with a simple majority joint resolution. Why would any company as big as Apple not just wait it out?

Why doea Trump keep insisting on destroying the US brand and risking the industries the US exports (high value added services) which is part of the reason US GDP is so high, in exchange for bringing back cheap manufacturing that produces less wealth per hour (and every advanced economy has outgrown) and they cant competitively do the same items as cheap anyway and will raise prices on consumers?

#1 Hurt competitive exports via retaliation

#2 replace high valie added competitive export jobs with uncompetitive domestic manufacturing

#3 raise prices for everyone while at it

 

@PartySick @Morphine Prince i know many Americans (such as yourselfs) dont agree with tarrifs so its not directed at u but... the sheer amount of self sabatoge with these policies is really hard to even fathom a sitting President would self inflict on their own Country. I dont think Trump realizes just how much the US exports to the world. Entertainment, Streaming services, Financial Services, digital platform services and designing services (many goods produces abroad are designed and administered in the US which pays way more than manufacturing). And lets not even dive over how almost all major retailers or fast food chains that exist are American (Walmart, Mcdonalds, Starbucks etc). He views trade only as physical goods, he always excludes services which is what the US excells at

 

Those are all Amerincan exports and he wants to hurt those brands to try and manufacture some shoes, screw some bolts in phones which the US cant even do at a reasonable price anyway. Make it make sense

Cool    we all know that Apple isn't going to just absorb the extra cost of manufacturing their phones. This extra cost will get passed directly on to the consumer. My client today was just telling me she changed from iPhone to the Galaxy flip phone and said she'd never go back. Maybe it's time I started entertaining the idea

Literally I just stay with iPhone because 1. I know them and don't have to learn anything, 2. my workmates and all work devices are apple and airdrop is just too convenient, and 3. their emojis are FAR SUPERIOR

That’s the thing I hate about what Trump is doing…like onshoring key industries like micro chips, cars, phones and other tech is fantastic but not this way!!! You have to first invest MASSIVELY domestically to be able to onshore these products and then slap tariffs once you can efficiently produce these items…the way he is doing is terrible…It’s ruining the idea of market independence and of tariffs…he’s ruining the idea of it for a whole other generation now…hate him for it
