Trump threatens Apple with 25% tariff

President Donald Trump on Friday demanded Apple and other smartphone makers like Samsung make their phones in the United States or face a 25% tariff.

“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” Trump posted Friday morning on Truth Social. “If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S.”

Speaking to press in the Oval Office on Friday after signing executive orders, Trump said the tariff would apply to any phone maker selling devices in the US.

“It would be more. It would be also Samsung and anybody that makes that product,” Trump told reporters. “Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair.”

Like, I get the idea of wanting the US to be dependent on itself and for companies to produce products in-house... but this is so not the way to go about it. Just demanding "do it or else" is not a plan/solution.

He just wants power as quickly as possible.

He could maybe find ways to incentivize Apple, Samsung, and others to hire American workers to build electronics in America without making the costs skyrocket but that would require problem solving skills he just doesn't have.

All these companies have repeatedly said that it would take years to even begin production of their products in USA

and it’s not worth doing it either bc it’s cheaper to make overseas. 

I won’t be surprised if the next executive order the orange cheeto makes is to make minimum wage the same for the entire country and it be lowered to nothing.
