Replace the Lead Single from each Album

Hey everyone! I thought it’d be fun to play a little game. The rules are simple pick another song from the album (it can even be one of the other singles) to take the place of the original lead. You can’t choose the existing lead single, though!

Here are my picks:

 

The Fame – "Poker Face"

I feel like this track is even stronger than "Just Dance" and has more recognition among casual listeners. It still captures the early Gaga sound perfectly.

 

The Fame Monster – "Monster"

I’ve always wanted this to be a single. While "Bad Romance" is iconic and a flawless lead, "Monster" has that edgy, theatrical drama quality that screams lead single.

 

Born This Way – "Marry the Night"

This has always felt like a natural opener to the album, emotional, dramatic, and sonically representative of the entire album.

 

ARTPOP – "Aura"

This one always should’ve been the lead. It's wild, chaotic, and sonically daring. It would’ve set the tone for ARTPOP way better, and it gives Telephone pt. 2 energy "I killed my former and".

 

Joanne – "A-YO"

Out of all the tracks, "A-YO" feels like it best embodies the sound and spirit of Joanne. 

 

Chromatica – "Alice"

"Replay" is a very close second, but "Alice" feels like a stronger introduction to the Chromatica world. The lyrics, production, and energy invites you to the album.

 

Mayhem – "Perfect Celebrity"

While "Disease" already fits perfectly as a lead, I’d give the spotlight to the other industrial, dark-pop banger. "Perfect Celebrity" deserves single status, it’s gritty, catchy, and really showcases her edge that we know from Gaga.

Alejandro, Monster & Dance In The Dark are all lead single-material,

but the idea of swapping Bad Romance for any of them feels blasphemous 😅

The Fame - Paparazzi
it would be a good introduction to an era that revolves around fame and i still think it would've been a hit as the lead. it would also lay the ground work nicely for poker face to smash as the 2nd single like in real life

The Fame Monster - Monster
im pretty sure this was gonna be the lead anyway before they changed it to bad romance and i can see why, its very remnant of what was on the radio at the time but with that unique gaga flair and it wouldve smashed

Born This Way - The Edge Of Glory or Marry the Night
TEOG is an undeniably incredible song that would be something new for her as a lead single choice, meanwhile marry the night is something new whilst also being very upbeat and dance pop so it wouldnt be too different. both would smash i think

ARTPOP - Aura
this would push her more in the direction of being a forward thinker, nothing like this was on radio at the time (much like all of her other lead singles) and it wouldve put her in front of her peers artistically and get her some brownie points for that, it is also catchy and easy to dance to

Joanne - Diamond Heart
i have no explanation for this other than that i think it represents the album well

Chromatica - Alice
from an artistic standpoint it makes the most sense to introduce everyone to the world of chromatica

Mayhem - Perfect Celebrity
it would let her fans know shes going back to that dark pop sound they love and would keep them happy, it would also not step on die with a smile's toes at all as it was still pretty recently smashing, just like what she tried to do with disease

Poker Face is perfect but Paparazzi would also be great. I think a solid half of that album could have been the lead and it would still guarantee her fame.

Telephone for TFM

Judas or Scheiße for BTW. Despite how great the video is, I've always felt MTN was a weak song, especially the ending bit. If it had a weightier sound to it then yes but as it is now? The depth just isn't there. Somebody use analog to remake it in the Mayhem style!

G.U.Y. or Venus could be great leads for ARTPOP. Aura isn't single material but it is a great song and goes tf off live  

Joanne! The title track makes a fantastic lead. Million Reasons as well.

There are no good single options for Chromatica. Maybe ROM I guess but that's only for the Ariana boost to come in and get her an extra month in the clubs before covid  

Disease is peak  but, same with The Fame, half the songs on Mayhem could be good singles/leads. Zombieboy, Abracadabra, or Garden of Eden in particular.

The Fame: Poker Face (I mean... what else could trump just dance)

TFM: Monster (deserved to be a single so bad. Better than a certain single off of TFM!)

BTW: Judas (I cant imagine any other song than BTW being the lead single tho, hard)

ARTPOP: Venus (would have been just as good - if not a better - lead single)

Joanne: John wayne (100%, people would have really liked this song. PI is the better song but not a good single imo)

Chromatica: Alice or Replay (I love this album so much, either of these would have been better leads that SL) 

MAYHEM: SOAM or VIY (Disease deserves the world but either of these would have been more successful. But I stand by Abra being the 2nd single and not the lead. Abra kept the momentum going)

I dont think it would have been a good single but MTN is one of the greatest songs of all time. When I listen to this song I can levitate things with my mind

The only song that wouldnt tank here is Venus omfg 

DITD would have been fine but no where as good of a single as BR. Also, Enigma would have done just as good as SL, but thats not saying much.

It's always sounded too...idk, "processed" to me. It's a flaw with a lot of BTW's production but the live versions are elevated to insane levels.

If she performed MTN again I'm sure it'd go incredibly hard but the album version sounds canned
