Dope vs I Wanna Be With You

I don't listen to Dope very often but it came on shuffle and reminded me of I Wanna Be With You

Which one do you prefer? IWBWU for me, it's so beautifully sweet. The iTunes performance was amazing (especially the 'cos I was born this way' part). Though I think Dope has some masterclass lyrics!

It only recently hit me that "Three spirits and 12 lonely steps up heaven's stairway to gold" was referring to the 12 step program (idk I barely listen to it), omg so clever

i prefer dope personally, but that's because it's the song that made me realise i was spiraling too far into addiction and needed to do something about it.  i haven't listened to iwbwu in the longest time, i should probably give it a listen.

I think Dope is a better song, but IWBWY is very sweet and the message meant a lot at the time

Definitely Dope! The central message of this song is so heartbreaking as it addresses feelings of despair, regret, and self-destruction, yet so powerful with its longing for redemption. "My heart would break without you/ Might not awake without you/ Been hurting low from living high for so long" is one of her best verses in my opinion!
And Dope is one of my favorites in Gaga's discography. Not to mention it references another favorite song of mine: Bell Bottom Blues!

This I feel very VERY much.

I attribute Dope to being the song that pulled me out of the cycle I was preparing to dive into. Addiction runs in my family, both sides, so one night while I was listening to the song I noticed that the address of the house I grew up in is in the second verse "Toast 1 Last Puff 2 Last Regrets 3 Spirits and 12 lonely steps up heaven's stairway to gold" (also I love that I tell people about my tattoo enough that my phone automatically fills the rest of that lyric) 12312 but with that being said, I feel like the song is LESS sentimental without the IWBWU performance at iTunes fest. (The leaked version is also stunning and anthemic) That song, IWBWU, basically carries the same energy as Applause, someone that was ripped from their safe space yearning to return. God this is such a tough decision because I relate so strongly to both tracks 😭😭😭😭😭

An addendum, I'm thinking about getting "I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and alone" on my left arm mirroring the dope tattoo that I have coiled around my right upper arm

Very this though by the time she released Dope I was clean. 

Well, I'm not clean anymore  but one day when I'm not so dead inside, Dope will have another layer of introspection to her.

Dope is a very sad (depressing?) and beautifully tragic song that has its place in her discography. But that is also the same reason why it's SO hard to listen to... especially when you're not in 'that' place.

It was there for me when I was able to relate to it the most.

But at the same time I Wanna Be With You is almost a polar opposite. So uplifting. To echo some of the comments I heard back in the ARTPOP era, it was Disney-esque... and thus polarizing. It's beautiful and more replayable, but not as groundbreaking.

I always thought the decision to not go forward with that direction is we already had Gypsy.
