Honestly what even is there business?

Paying freelancers to write op eds about mental health? That's not a business.

Even if its a non-profit, it's clearly got no fundraising structure to support itself outside of begging investors for cash injections every few months.

I thought it was referring to Rare Beauty at first and was like "But this is a multi-million dollar company!" But it makes sense that a side project charitable cause would bear the brunt of cutting corners. Looks like a classic case of a singer wanting to do it all and flex philanthropic endeavours but not prepared to put in the work. Not being able to pay 15 people when you're a 1%-er is a bad look. Billionaire celebrities always use their own money to help with spouses and children's passion projects that are going downhill, so the fact that Selena isn't putting any money towards this, which would be a drop in the ocean for her is REALLY bad. Her mum's doing it all but clearly not up to the job and when Selena's the one with financial privilege, she shouldn't be letting her take the fall. Considering that she rarely does music anymore and how she wants to give it up completely and she isn't working on any movies right now, she's got no excuse for taking her eye off the ball here.

I hope this is a warning to other celebrities who want to set up side hustles that they need to know what they're doing and devote time to them. Don't just found a cause, hire some people to deal with it and let it go to ruin without checking in on it. Especially charitable/humanitarian causes.

Yeah this. It's a shame because Selena has always had companies that were/are geared towards people that often get neglected by beauty and mental health trends. I really hope she doesn't go down the route of people shady like this because people have had theories like this about her for awhile, and I would hate for them to be true.

Selena Gomez “invested more money” into Wondermind after learning of a recent “financial setback”

“Selena has invested millions of dollars over the years into Wondermind to support her mother and their shared passion for mental health, including when she was alerted about the most recent financial setback, and immediately invested more money as she’s not involved in the day-to-day operations," the source tells PEOPLE.

A source now tells PEOPLE exclusively that it is not true that her mother took out a loan to pay the salaries, adding that Gomez, 32, took action when she first learned of the issue late last week.

"To invest in the future of the company, Mandy has chosen to take the lead here with a personal loan to invest in the future of the company.”

A Wondermind spokesperson told Forbes that the company has “rectified” the situation and everyone who is owed money will receive it on Monday.
