A federal judge in Louisiana on Friday said that a 2-year-old U.S. citizen appears to have been deported with her mother to Honduras with no meaningful due process.

In an order scheduling a hearing for next month, U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty wrote that the child was sent to Honduras on Friday with her mother, who had been ordered to be removed.

“The Government contends that this is all okay because the mother wishes that the child be deported with her,” Doughty wrote. “But the Court doesn’t know that.”

Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that the "parent made the decision to take the child with them to Honduras," adding that "it is common that parents want to be removed with their children.”

The mother and her two daughters, including the U.S. citizen who is identified as VML in court documents, were seized Tuesday morning in New Orleans by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as the woman went to a scheduled meeting with the agency, lawyers opposing the deportation wrote.

The father of VML, who lives in the U.S., sought custody of VML after the mother was detained this week and asked that the girl be placed with a custodian who is “ready and willing” to care for her in the U.S., attorneys for the custodian wrote.

VML was born in Baton Rouge on Jan. 4, 2023, and is a U.S. citizen, the attorneys with the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild wrote. The other child is 11 years old and was born in Honduras.

Attorneys who sought to stop the child’s deportation argued that removing her violates the Constitution and her rights as a U.S. citizen.

We don't know the situation but this is in line with the Trump admin wanting to deport children of undocumented immigrants. I see this as the excuse they want to use.

What they're doing isn't even deportation. We need to call it exactly what it is: human trafficking. They are actively engaging in human trafficking. The minute you strip away due process, deportation shouldn't even come to mind. These people are disgusting and I hope they all get what they deserve for all this cruelty and dehumanization.

Everytime another headline pops up my blood pressure goes up thinking of the multiple times someone said I was fearmongering during the campaign. 

If they get away with deporting a 2 year old U.S. citizen after getting away with the hairdresser and Kilmar, they're just gonna start deporting any citizen they want whenever they want. They've laid the groundwork for arresting citizens indefinitely with no warning or due process. They've laid the groundwork for targeting people that peacefully protest. They've already ignored court orders. They've already withheld information from families and officials. There's already at least 1 concentration camp in the bag and in use. There's still Guantanamo. And Texas greenlit land for building more in case of overflow. 

Literally anyone who cares even a little needs to start looking into their communities and finding ways of protesting. Bad times aren't just ahead; they're here and now and if things don't start changing soon it will almost certainly affect you eventually.

It’s the worst feeling in the world, have a disabled family member, he’s mentally ill and having issues with his residency, and the biggest fear, is that we get a fighting chance to keep him here, that he gets due process, because so many are not. There is not any family outside of the US that could care for him, and without support he would die. He does not have the mental capacity to be fully independent or self sufficient, and the services he needs are here. We have immigration lawyers and are trying to prevent the worse from happening, but it is the absolute most awful feeling, it feels like every member of the family, your bonds and connections as human beings, is just totally violated, it feels like being totally and completely violated as human beings, to live in this fear, to have people speak about it trivially & it’s hard to not wish the same fear, harm or violation on the ones causing the pain and suffering. This is incredibly sad, awful and an injustice for all of us, each story, is a violation and crime against all of us and humanity, these crimes, need to stop, they need to be rectified, and we need this administration to be locked up so they can’t hurt or violate anymore families, the law needs to protect us.
