So Peter Turkson is being considered to be the next pope; his election would make him the first Black pope in history.

As expected, this has brought all kinds of reactions. People have started saying that this would mark the end of the world, according to a theory by Nostradamus. This, by any measure, is covert racism.

Once again, the world is bringing up its racism, which has always made me genuinely wonder: who told white people that their skin color is superior to others? Where in the Bible does it say this? Because I doubt God discriminates against people based on their skin color. If He loves everyone equally, then who are white people to oppose a pope being a color other than white? Or to discriminate against Black people? They are not the owners of the world and this coming from Catholics is ridiculous, disgusting and embarrassing. Like seriously is getting tiring with this white demons and their hateful hearts

I would like that if God exists and reveals himself one day, that his skin color is different from white so that all those racist people are shocked and burn in hell as they deserve. 

White people always discriminate against black people, latinos, asians or any race as if there were something that said they were superior, more than they themselves invented that. Like seriously is so funny to me🤔

Apart from race, if there's one elephant in the room here that's almost never directly acknowledged in these kinds of speculations is that almost every single time, the front-runners for pope lose the election. There's a famous quote about it: "He who enters a conclave as a pope, leaves it as a cardinal". This has happened time and time again for the last popes, mainly because cardinals are also swayed by the news I'd imagine. Francis didn't appear in any predictions back when he was elected. And if he did, he appeared on a footnote, or they would say he's much less likely than others. Benedict was almost unheard of when he was elected. Nobody believed he would be pope. That is a repeating pattern. If you want to know the next pope, bookmark this: he'll come out of nowhere.

Religion is a anti-intellectual disease and the Catholic church specifically has not only ruined millions of lives, it's set mankind back centuries by preventing and destroying scientific progress.

White pope, black pope, bigot, progressive, none of it changes the fact that it's well past time to abolish these fairytales and relegate religions like Christianity to the books of history along with the other mythologies and superstitions humans have created since the cave man days.

"God gave his only begotten son to rid mankind of original sin" should go right next to "Prometheus gave man the gift of fire" and "Helios drew the sun across the sky from a horse drawn chariot"

He’s considered moderate relative to many of the other contenders. And his views on immigration, as far as I understand them, are pretty moderate and nuanced. He seems to basically believe that we should try to get at the root causes of mass migration, as opposed to demonizing immigrants.

If people treated religion merely as myth, I honestly would have no issue with it, but I agree that the fact that people treat these stories as truths and try to govern the lives of millions based on it is ****ing insane.

Pope Francis was considered a conservative when he was still Cardinal Bergoglio in Argentina. So much so that I was legitimately scared of him being in a position of power, because of this. 

Three doritos later, he ended up saying that homosexuals were no bigger sinners than himself, and that church and families should embrace them. I'm not saying such will be the case with this guy, I don't think his skin color is an indicator of whether he'll be progressive or conservative, melanin does not determine ideological allignement; HOWEVER, Francis' reputation was that of a raging conservative before he was elected. And he became the most progressive Pope in the church's history. 

We can hope the next religious leader will be at the very least kind-hearted. And if not, we'll meme about him

It doesn’t say anything about whites, or other color of skin being superior. According to the Bible, it’s because of pride. Back in the day (in so called biblical times) , you were most likely to be discriminated against do to your rank, family, or tribe.
