I hate her :sharon:

I'm starting to think she has a vendetta against you :ladyhaha: First DWAS on the album, now the Joanne shade

Tbf, I think this is just a phase, in a few years she will probably look back and says different things, I think she's on a more "rebellious" phase now and she's channeling more from BTW/The Fame, eras where she had some strong claws. :nails:

Joanne, Chromatica and ARTPOP are eras where she was more vulnerable and because of that I think she subconsciously tries to distance herself from them. She's riding another career high right now too, that also must remind her of her BTW/TFM days, I bet this is not easy to process even for her. :diane:

This is my read at least, i could be totally wrong :brat:

Jk, true. Also let's keep in mind she is a main producer on Harlequin and well we know what happened during Chromatica's creation, for instance. She is talking about one of her "favorite pieces of production" here

I think it’s unfortunately a little worse with ARTPOP because seems like the most traumatic era for her. A lot - which still, the only things we know -  happened internally and also the huge backlash, it was definitely the most painful times to be a stan.
Which is a shame because at the same time she delivered one of her best visuals plus album.

4th Time Around

ARTPOP and Chromatica might not be as consistent as some of her other work but they are far from bad albums. Joanne is Gaga's only straight up miss to me

True, the meaning is important. But she also talked about Joanne on a unfavorable way in that recent interview and she cut the ARTPOP talk at the monster conference :billie: Doesn't mean they are bad albums and i don't believe she actually dislikes them but i do believe she's trying to distance herself from them atm.

She really said "f*ck that f*g specifically" :sharon:

I mean, I'm not really surprised about the (apparent) phasing out of those albums for this era so far...though there has only been one setlist so let's try not to be too dramatic yet :ladyhaha: we'll see if it holds true for the rest of Mayhem's lifespan, we all know she's not gonna abandon any released work of hers permanently.

For Mayhem, she "returned to her roots". And not like Chromatica either, she literally went back to making the kind of music she made for TF, TFM, and BTW which are three albums I've always considered linked anyway. Their eras overlapped and they're all similar in tone, showing growth from one album to the next.

ARTPOP was such a huge tone shift in her career and it really stands on its own apart from the rest of her discography. The dark pop Mother Monster suddenly exploded in colors, bright sounds, her most wild fashion, and some of her loudest music to date.

Joanne was yet another hard turn away from anything she's done before. No more blood fountains or gothic castles, no horror show visuals or seashells on her boobs. She bore her soul in tamed fashion and personable, intimate music that fittingly was first played in dive bars instead of clubs or fashion shows.

Aside from specific songs in specific situations, it's hard to make the two of them synergize with the rest of her discography. Usually it has to be the other way around. Slamming Judas into the artRAVE or shoehorning Scheiße and Bloody Mary into the JWT. They're out of place but the shows compensated by bringing the albums' themes to a more neutral point within her artistry.

It's for that reason that I don't think you can rule any song or album out for the tour 'cause who knows what this woman's gonna do next :kry: she took an album full of disco, rock, and industrial pop and made an "Opera House in the Desert" :kry:

And Chromatica...idk :messga: I feel like she's the only one that actually deserves a bit of shunning 'cause it never felt like a Gaga album to begin with. It wasn't just sonically and lyrically weak, it lacked the vibe, the spirit, that her music usually has. It still feels anemic, sterile, and synthetic to this day even though I do jam to some songs (justice for Enigma!).

My opinion, of course. I'm sure others would say this about Joanne (despite it literally being her most personal album but hey, some of us like real guitars and grit and others like synth.mp3 over looped kick.mp3 as long as she's wearing weird sh*t while they play it in the clubs, it's cool :huntyga:).

Anyway, yeah, imagine her shows are meals and her albums are all different foods. TF, TFM, BTW, and Mayhem all compliment each other like ingredients and sides to a great pasta dish. That delicious garlic, the savory sauce, the bread on the side, the bright garden salad, and then here comes ARTPOP (chicken, she would never mix it with pasta, she's too Italian for that), Joanne (chocolate cake, really? After all that pasta?), and Chromatica (potatoes, way too much starch, you won't poop for a week).

She's just not serving up those dishes right now, let's see her menu later on :diane:

Thats a lot to read, and I did. Agree with most of it, the Chromatica shade though.. 911, Sine From Above, have great lyrics in my opinion.

I didn't say allllll the lyrics are bad. Or that any of them are bad per se. Just the album, generally, is lyrically weaker than other albums.

On other albums she would convey emotions through songs' sound and tone and the words themselves would either confirm the feeling or reaffirm it.

But on Chromatica she often just straight up says flat out "I am sad" if she's sad. I think SFA and Enigma have the strongest lyricism on the album, they're higher points than other albums' low points, but they don't bring the average up high enough for the whole project to compare imo.

One of my favorite things about her writing was the duality of take aways you can have. In Joanne (title track) you could read the song as a tribute to her aunt. Or you could read the song as her own story of growth and not knowing what lies ahead of her. Orrrr you could link it to the overarching theme of pain changing who you are as a person.

You can fall down a dozen rabbit holes with her other albums while Chromatica, ironically ('cause of Alice) has very few such holes.
