PartySick 160,727
There's no reasoning with religious types. Religion at its core is a state of superstition and delusion, you can't fight that with rational thought. You're stinky 1

Folks who govern their lives and the lives of others based on fairytales deserve to feel shame. Sepsami 18,913
Know of fence to your sister but what is it with the resurgence of the religious loonies hating on popmusic again? Did they have to look for something else to project their bs onto now that their orange jesus is in office? Sorry if I come across as bitter but I am so damn tired of these people not having sufficient braincells to realise not everyone believes in some insane dogmatic religion. Kayi 2,672
Tell her that Gaga use religions imagery (pagan, christian, luciferian, etc) not to denigrate it but to make art. Religions have been the canvas of art since their creations. Gaga herself is a liberal Catholic Christian woman. In Bloody Mary she tell the story of Mary Magdalena mourning the Christ. The song is inspired by the madness that she feels cause she won't punish by herself the assassins of the Christ, they will be judged by the lord himself. She will mourns him and makes him her religion. In Alejandro she reject the toxic aspect of religions and make references to an Italian saint Maria Goretti. It's about why there is more and more dechristianization. I found this on the French Wikipedia page : Spoiler Lady Gaga's song reportedly mocks the story of Saint Maria Goretti (1890–1902), who is considered a Martyr of Purity in the Catholic religion. Given the singer's personal history, Lady Gaga has likely heard of this young saint, who is highly venerated in Italy. Maria Goretti was murdered at the age of 12 by Alessandro Serenelli because she refused to sleep with him. Several elements of the lyrics and the music video recall this episode. The spoken part of the song closely resembles the sentences spoken by Maria Goretti to her attacker. "In her pockets" is a reference to the rosary in the girl's pocket, "she hides true love" is a reference to her spiritual love for the divine, "just a baby" refers to the fact that she was only 12 years old at the time of the events, "just like a dad" clearly refers to the Trinity , "And all those flames that burned before him. Now he's gonna firefight, got cool the bad" refers to the words spoken by Alessandro Serenelli to the police following the attack (who, after prison, would become a monk and attend the canonization ceremonies with Maria Goretti's mother). The fact that Lady Gaga is dressed as a nun in the video is therefore not insignificant. Other religious symbols are misused in the video: the singer carries the Sacred Heart in a funeral procession, sings in front of a cross several times, mimes suggestive scenes, even a rape or an orgy. Lady Gaga thus attacks the Christian religion on the one hand and shows her rejection of the purity of heart embodied by the saint. In Judas, she plays the role of Mary Magadelena and it's about the way she is tempted by the evil (Judas) but still feels that she loves the Christ. It isn't wrong for Christians to speak about temptations and remorse. In Born This Way she jokes about : "him" being gay and loving a man and "HIM" god himself. She says that some things about humans nature can't be changed (skin color, sexuality, disabilities, etc...) but that's God who made us so it's ok. (Also I recently watched a video of a theologist explaining that Sodom and Gomorrah explains the story of men raping men. It's all about the traduction. Imagine how the world would have been without the wrong traductions and interpretations. Rape is a sin, not homosexuality.) In Amen Fashion, she uses "Black Jesus" as a metaphor for someone who's an innovator. In Garden of Eden, she says that making mistakes is ok and uses the reference of the Fall episode to illustrate it. But actually I tried to analyze it more deeply, and I think there's refs to Gnosticism and Kabbalah. Spoiler I'm a litterature student, I love to analyze stuffs that have a deeper meaning and MAYHEM is full of esoteric refs but more importantly of Gothic litterature refs. English isn't my native language so I got to admit that these traductions have been a bit polished by a traductor. Here are some lines that I analyzed : "This chick’s a machine, but her friend is way more fun But you can’t hear her with the music on So you say “yes” and then the party’s o-on This chick’s a machine, but her friend is way more fun But you can’t hear her with the music on So you say “yes” and then the party’s o-on" The “chick” being a machine might be a metaphor for God being too rigid or oppressive. The word machine stands in contrast with the idea of spiritual liberation or enlightenment — often referred to as “the lights” or higher knowledge. “Her friend” could be interpreted as Lucifer/Satan. This line suggests that transgression can be a path to freedom or awakening. The music distracts the boyfriend — and music has historically been associated with Lucifer and decadence, especially in symbolic or esoteric interpretations. This line implies that making mistakes or breaking the rules leads to knowledge. It resonates with Luciferian philosophy, where the Fall is not seen as a punishment, but as a necessary step toward enlightenment. The myth of the Fall is also present in gnosticism and in some kabbalistic traditions, where descent into error is seen as a stage in the journey back to divine knowledge. "(Oh) I’ve been feelin’ this familiar feeling Like I’ve known you my whole life" This line evokes a mystical sense of déjà vu, as if the narrator had already lived this moment before. The feeling of familiarity may relate to the concept of the Aleph in Kabbalah: the point of ultimate knowledge where all times (past, present, future) and all experiences coexist. Gaga seems to invite her lover to transgress, to step outside of ordinary perception, in order to reach this higher light or truth. Through the Aleph-like revelation, she feels as though she has always known both this Fall and this person, as if this forbidden connection is part of some ancient, eternal truth. So more concretly, this line reflects the idea that mistakes are a natural part of the human experience. Gaga refuses to regret her transgressions, normalizing them as an inherent part of life. In Abracadabra, she uses this word cause it means "I create as I speak" and it's litteraly what she does in this song. There's the idea of sinning and making a pact with an entity ("phantom of the dance come to me"). But, it's metaphorical, Lady Gaga/Mistress of Mayhem is portrayed as a bit devilish and temptress. While Stef is pure. Stef is forced to make a hit to receive the acclaim of the fans, critics and to surcive from her popstar persona. I'm in a phase of seeking an higher level of conciousness in spiritualities (such as Gnosticism, Sufism, etc...). I'm from a muslim family (but not the mainstream Shia or Sunni ways) and I don't reject the belief in itself, but I no longer see the litteral aspects as relevant. So I don't see the use of religions as an artistic inspiration as something bad or insulting.
