Trump pauses all tariffs except for China (125%)

Facing a global market meltdown, President Donald Trump on Wednesday abruptly backed down on his tariffs on most nations for 90 days but raised his tax rate on Chinese imports to 125%.

The S&P 500 was up 7.8% in afternoon trading. It had been down earlier in the morning amid worries about Trump’s trade war and whether it would cause a recession, as economists fear. But it spiked immediately after Trump sent the social media posting that investors have been waiting for. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 2,476 points, or 6.6%, as of 1:35 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 9% higher.

A trade war between China and the US is not what we need right now. They are the two biggest economies in the world and this will hurt both. Now that the US has paused tariffs on other countries, they can focus fully on trying to destroy China, in which they won't. I just hope the rest of the world still sees this as a sign to still stop trade with the US

I don't know if I want other countries to also stop tariffs for 90 days to send a message that if Trump stops, they'll stop too, or if I want them to continue to send the message that if Trump starts ****ing with other countries they'll show no mercy

It seems this has been the secret goal of the US: to target China and to provoke China. I suppose there will be no tarrifs on other countries (other than the 10%), and will be delayed again by 90 days into infinity.

It has been a strategy to get other countries to lower their tariffs, and to shift from US-China business to US-rest of world business, to be less dependent on China. This has been all staged and planned before.
