NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street’s worst crisis since COVID slammed into a higher, scarier gear Friday. 

The S&P 500 lost 6% after China matched President Donald Trump’s big raise in tariffs announced earlier this week. The move increased the stakes in a trade war that could end with a recession that hurts everyone. Not even a better-than-expected report on the U.S. job market, which is usually the economic highlight of each month, was enough to stop the slide.

The drop closed the worst week for the S&P 500 since March 2020, when the pandemic crashed the economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 2,231 points, or 5.5% Friday, and the Nasdaq composite tumbled 5.8% to pull more than 20% below its record set in December.

What should average people who do not invest do about this? Do we have reason to worry or will this only affect those who deal with stocks?

Considering half of the US has a retirement account which is invested in stocks, consumer sentiment and investor decisions will affect you even if you have zero investments.

Doesn't this seem like an engineered recession if this really is the beginning of one?  The end of globalization and trade wars to divide the G7 nations, sow discord between the US and NATO allies, and the many trade agreements ruined by these damn tariffs (like it'll pay back the trillions in debt), only seems to help Russia and Putin's ambitions.

Is it possible to believe that Trump is Putin's useful idiot and his administration is either full of greedy, dense yes men or a crew of traitorous puppets?

It's not just possible, it's obvious. Trump has always been a useful investment for Putin.
