The amount of times leftists say "well she has to earn my vote"? My narcissistic, delusional friend, your vote isn't a prize for some politician to win, it's YOUR VOICE.

Why do I like that statement of yours?!

I feel like we all slowly disengage from politics, and watch the world collapse around us.. Democracy is not voting once every 4 years and then move on

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

They don't even vote, they just come around to whine then leave. Then they wonder why politicians don't cater to their demands :saladga:

Voting in presidential and midterm elections is the absolute bare minimum someone can do, you're right. If you're a citizen of a democracy and you actually care about it you gotta get out and be active.

I've hit a few protests and I've made local elections my business despite knowing how deeply red my county is (2-to-1 Republican).

The most I can hope for is making the Rep margin of victory slightly smaller but it's something.

Sanders ran in two primaries and he overwhelmingly lost both times 'cause the voters didn't want him.

Blatant lies. Well, if it was an actual democratic process, at least.

Democrats like Biden adopted more progressive stances to bridge the gap between moderate liberals and leftists.

If you truly believe this I may have a bridge to sell you.

But I can't help but laugh (scream) at all the single issue voters who decried the Biden administration for not waving a magic wand and solving a near century long foreign humanitarian crisis therefore ensuring the election of someone that doesn't even pretend to care about Palestine and would like to develop real estate there after Israel levels and fully annexes the country.

Also blatant lies--you KNOW people did not want him to "wave a magic wand". The LEAST he could do would be... idk, maybe stop actively arming and funding the genocide.

Now, where are those same people? All those college kids that crashed Kamala's rallies? The people who protested the DNC? Even the vocally anti-Dem people on this very site?

They're all silent :ohwell: 'cause it's performative fake activism from ignorant people whose votes aren't worth chasing

Either blatant lies or just flat out delusion. People are still protesting, despite the fact that the government officials WHICH THE DEMS HELPED VOTE IN are literally "disappearing" people.

Dems know that and that's why they won't capitulate to the demands of keyboard warriors who don't even show up to vote.

And yet, you guys still lost, and yet, you guys still blame the people whose votes you claim you did not need. Make it make sense. :huntyga:

The hypocrisy of it all is more surprising to me tbh. I truly thought that you were better than that, that you were more intelligent than that. Then again, I often am wrong about people, so it's whatever I guess. Congrats?

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

I'm intelligent enough to see the reality of the situation: that leftists were given a binary choice between a woman that said Palestinians deserve peace and independence and a man who calls them animals and says Israel should kill them all already so he can build a hotel.

And when it came time to make the decision between the two options we had, 5 MILLION people sat it out 'cause they didn't actually care.

You can insult me if you want idrc, it doesn't change the fact that the left constantly shoots themselves in the foot and takes the rest of us with them.

It is a direct democratic process. He got less votes, even fewer votes the second time, therefore he lost.

If the voters wanted him, he would have won.

That's how elections work.

If you're gonna sit there and say Biden didn't have the most progressive platform of any president since FDR then you're not paying enough attention to American politics :rip:

And leave every Israeli citizen, including half a million Americans, defenseless to the threats around Israel? Threats that Israel mostly created itself, sure, but threats nonetheless.

And again, people like to ignore the millions of US tax dollars that Biden had funneled into Gaza to build it up and keep it on track to some day be free of Israeli occupation. Every bit of that plan was shredded when Hamas attacked.

It was American money that modernized Gaza's Internet. It was American money that built up its infrastructure. It was American diplomats that kept Gazans' ability to travel and work between Gaza and Israel freely. Much of this overseen by Biden and his policies towards the region.

Bro even tried to hold weapons back from Israel when they found solid proof of American weapons being used to kill innocents but congress pushed it through anyway. Biden wasn't a king, he wasn't a dictator like Erdogan. He was one piece of one branch of the federal government.

Biden was in a lose-lose-lose-lose situation. Politically skewered no matter what he did so he opted to protect the US' assets and ally in Israel, sending weapons that were meant to be used defensively, while giving humanitarian aid to Gaza and desperately sending diplomats to tell the two terrorist entities (Israel and Hamas) to stop fighting 'cause people are dying.

Leftists think he could have unilaterally said "no more bombs for Israel" and suddenly Israel can't kill Palestinians anymore.

it doesn't work like that.

I won't sit here and pretend Biden was perfect, far from it. He made a ton of deeply flawed decisions just like any other leader would. But I believe he's a good man at heart and the assertion that he "funded a genocide" has always been ridiculous and idiotic.

Besides, if the left actually cared about Gaza and the genocide, they would have made sure Harris won the election instead of protesting her every action while it's crickets at every MAGA Klan rally.

Oh no, we needed the votes. But Kamala could have dropped to her knees and promised to personally destroy Israel and leftists would have still stayed home 'cause their outrage and "ideals" are all performative. They're lazy. They show up, get attention, then 80% of them run back to their basements while the world deals with the fallout.

Barely a peep happened when Trump won and Israel decided to invade the West Bank. Even here on this site where every bomb dropped on Gaza saw a thread made full of dozens of "GeNoCiDe JoE" comments from people with simple and idealistic views of the world.

Well, I know I've been protesting. Strangely, I don't see many people talking about Palestine anymore though. Probably 'cause now we've got huge swaths of our own people to worry about now that the single issue voters ensured Kamala didn't have the votes to beat Trump and protect every minority, female, immigrant, and queer person.

But anyway! I will agree that it's disturbing how many Democratic senators and house representatives have decided to "show good faith" in the face of nazism, hoping it'll give them an inch to make an alteration to some of the policies being passed into law.

They're fools. Whatever strategy they think they're employing here isn't working. And a shake up within the party needs to happen. And it'll probably be led by people like Sanders, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett who religiously said/say "vote blue no matter who" 'cause, unlike many leftists, they understood what was at risk in 2024 and that the only way to move forward without stumbling backwards first was electing Democrats.

Shame leftists don't even listen to their own supposed heros and decided their egos were more important than millions of lives.

Anyway, good luck getting your education here in the flawed but "functioning for now" US while the threat of the Trump administration randomly deciding to kidnap you looms. Genuinely hope no hardship comes to you and you're able to book it out of here as soon as you've got diploma in hand.

Not sh*t is gonna get better here 'cause we've got nazis on one side and idiots on the other. The rest of us are held hostage as the pendulum swings to ever radical extremes on the political spectrum.

Not much we can (legally) do other than cause a fuss and hope we can retain a shaky democracy until next year's midterm elections.

Then we need Democrats to take enough power in the house and senate to stop Trump at every turn.

There were several very easy steps that could have been taken on Democrats' behalf from 2021 onwards. Trump didn't just recently start terrorizing the core values of the country. Jan 6th. should have been the next 9/11 but Democrats refused to make it so because it was a bunch of white men doing it rather than people whose country has oil. The FBI should have been immediately directed (by Biden, who was big boss of FBI then) to investigate Trump himself rather than put it off for over a year. All decorum on him being a former President should have been thrown out the window. Mitch McConnell was intellectually apt in 2021 and even he spoke strongly against Trump in the wake of Jan 6 despite Trump being his knight in shining armor. It should have and could have been done then. And I would like to remind y'all that Democrats held the House, Senate, and Oval Office in 2021 on top of Republican support to hold Trump accountable.

Even without Congressional steps, I don't understand what would have been so hard about continuously signaling the illegality of Trump's activities and his absolute blunder of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Even for single-issue voters focused on the economy, it would not have been hard to find and circulate statistics speaking on the absolute shambles the economy was in in 2020. And really all of this is the establishment's fault anyways for allowing education funding to be absolutely dismal to the point that the voters cannot read, comprehend, or think independently.

Lastly, Biden should have known better than to even run for a second term from Day 1. His approval ratings were never that great and it was ALWAYS "Anyone but Trump" that got him into the office, and not people's belief in him. Kamala should have been getting groomed from Day 2, and the media narrative should have 100% reflected that. Let her spear-head the infrastructure deals (that many red states rebranded to "Rebuild (insert state name)" to discredit Biden) and a lot of other good publicity. Put her in the news and sit her down for interviews. This should have NEVER been a 100 day campaign. But Biden was greedy about his legacy, even though he would  have benefited much more from being Kamala's predecessor than setting up this country to fail.

"Democrats had no power" but Republicans hold a slim majority and find creative ways to attack the freedoms and liberties of Americans and legal residents every single day. PLEASE.

Hold up now, I never claimed Dems had flawless or even good political maneuvering the last 4 years. I was speaking specifically to election reform/protections, which is the topic of this thread.

Bringing it back to my point that I made: angrily spouting that “Dems had controlled the Senate and the House in 2021 and did nothing” is a huge oversimplification that just makes you seem unintelligent. The “Democratic control” of the Senate from 2021-2022 consisted of the VP plus exactly 50 senators, two of which included Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, two centrists that opposed almost all progressive legislation (including prominent voting rights bills that passed the House). So sure, on paper Dems controlled the Senate, but anyone with a brain knows that the Senate had 48 Dem senators and 2 centrist independent Senators that would only occasionally play ball on specific left-of-center bills.

No what you said was that Democrats never had the votes to do what everyone is mad at them for not doing, and you said anything Biden himself did could have been undone by the Supreme Court. I gave two pretty straight-forward ideas that could have very well worked: Work to ensure Trump could not run for President again in Congress, and Biden should have directed the FBI to investigate Trump way way sooner.

It's interesting that I seem unintelligent for giving simple information but you choose to ignore it. Yes Democrats had 50 "Democrats" in the Senate and Kamala, but that does not mean the votes were not there. McConnell himself wanted to get rid of Trump (https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/21/politics/mitch-mcconnell-january-6-trump/index.html). You're telling me the most prominent and highest-ranking Republican Senator in the past decade would not have been able to whip together the votes necessary on his side of the aisle to work through some things in order to "preserve Democracy"? Even Mitch recognized that Trump had gone too far and was publicly denouncing him. Do not act like there was absolutely nothing that could have been done right there to prevent this presidency now. This was something the Republican leadership showed concern with and where was the Democratic leadership? Signaling a sigh of fake outrage that amounted to nothing, just like the past decade has amounted to absolutely nothing.

It's laughable that Democrats need a majority to get things done, but Republicans can lack a majority to pass a budget and they still manage to do that. It's laughably weak leadership from Democrats. That's the issue here. The difference between Republicans and Democrats, and the reason Republicans are in control now and actually getting things done, is because Republicans do things at the earliest opportunity and then try to clear hurdles as they get the ball rolling. And Democrats are sitting there trying to decide who has the ball, how big is the ball, what is the color of the ball, why is the ball, and then the chance is gone. And they're like "Oh well, we tried y'all". And then people like you sit here and make excuses for them and are dismissive of criticism while calling people with the same end-goal and beliefs as you "unintelligent" because they're expecting the leaders of 330 Million people to actually lead.

What I realized is when we consume these news on GGD, a pop forum or reddit, we are reading reactions to his actions in very liberal spaces where he will be dissed, of course. But we are in our very small echo chambers. When you step outside of those, it seems that most americans love what Trump is doing. For this reason I don't believe there will be a revolution.

Vocals Dems like Sanders and AOC have become the actual opposition when it comes to rhetoric, but Democrats overall are gambling with our rights and people are rightfully upset they are being passive about all of this.

Democrats can't let the US crash and burn so they get voted in next time if the current government ends democracy and controls which votes 'count' :bear:

My comment was in response to another post complaining about why Democrats didn’t put election safeguards in place, in a thread about Trump trying to institute unconstitutional election regulations, so that is the scope my comment is and was limited to. Try to keep your little peanut brain focused on the topic at hand and stop putting words in my mouth or we’re going to have a problem. But I’m sure you’ll ignore that directive and just respond with another 3 paragraph meandering rant about Democrats. Have a nice day.

I have a peanut brain but you're the one that feels some type of way about having to actually read on a forum :ladyhaha: okay baby. I'm sorry you can't seem to admit that we never had to get to this point of Trump's presidency and you can't grasp the correlation of Dem's failure in 2021 being directly related with events now. I'd also hate to have a problem with someone on the internet! Have a good day!
